Multi-Genre Project

“Where I’m From”

For this project, you are going to use the collection on the “Steel Valley Voices” website as an example to tell your family’s story. The goal is to help to preserve your family history through the artifacts you find.

Requirements: After you have gathered artifacts, you are going to create a multi-genre project that tells your family’s story.

Your project must include a title page that reflects you, the creator, and a table of contents. It must be bound in some way, and it must have a works cited page. If you do not have a works cited page, I will not grade your project.

You MUST have at least two pieces from the writing section. In addition to all of the required genre points, you must include an author autobiography (about you!) which tells me about you and lets me know why you chose the pieces you chose for your project. Tell me where you came from and how it has shaped who you are? How do the genres you have chosen help your reader to better understand your family history? A picture would be an amazing addition to the author autobiography. You must mention each of the pieces in your project in the author autobiography.

ORDER TO FOLLOW FOR BINDING:

✓ Cover

✓ Table of Contents

✓ Genre Pieces

✓ Works Cited

✓ Author Autobiography.

Each page of your project must be numbered with the corresponding table of contents page, so I can easily follow along and grade.

Please use your time wisely. This project is going to be a major part of your grade; please do your best to be creative, thoughtful and neat.

***I will be keeping your project, so if you want a copy, please save it on your computer.

How does history influence our understanding of a text?

How can an author’s choice of genre and use of figurative language determine theme and a reader’s attitude towards a text?

What can be done to ensure original style and effective organizational patterns in writing?

What kinds of listening/speaking skills can be used to reach an audience?

With the use of technology, effective writing can be enhanced.

Independent reading can impact a reader on various levels and improve reading skills.

What is a Multi-Genre Project?

“A multigenre arises from research, experience, and imagination. It is not an uninterrupted, expository monologue nor a seamless narrative nor a collection of poems. A multigenre paper is composed of many genres and subgenres, each piece self-contained, making a point of its own, yet connected by theme or topic, and sometimes by language, images, and content…the trick is to make such a paper hang together” (Romano).
