Course Syllabus: Probability and Statistics

Course Syllabus: Probability and Statistics

Course Synopsis and Overview

This course is designed to give college bound students a background in the real-life applications of probability and statistics. Students are going to learn the mathematical concepts so they can apply them to situations. Participants in this elective course are expected to report on their finding to their classmates. The course will culminate with an in-depth statistical analysis that will be done in pairs. Successful completion of this is required to pass the course.

5. Computational formulas for calculating variance

3.7 Percentiles and percentile ranks

8. Z-scores

2. The general normal curve

3. The standard normal curve

**A cumulative project and presentation is required in order to complete the course. This project will involve students formulating hypotheses. Then, the students will collect data to test their hypotheses. They will then display the data in the form of at least 2 graphs that we have studied. They will then interpret the data statistically using the measures of central tendency and variation. They will be required to present their findings in a Microsoft Powerpoint presentation and on a poster to their peers. Proper attire will be required for presentations.

Over the course of the semester your child will experience multiple activities designed to help them master these core standards. We believe that sustained focus on these standards will prepare our students for the challenges they will face in the workplace and in their continuing education.
