TITLE

STUDENT SERVICES ADMINISTRATOR

The primary function of the STUDENT SERVICES ADMINISTRATOR (SSA) is to assist the Program Director (PD) in the recruitment and enrollment in the Comprehensive Boat Building Program. The SSA will be the contact person for all inquiries pertaining to full time programs and enrollment.

The SSA will be familiar with all programs as directed by the PD and be able to answer all questions with authority about the content and schedule of the programs. The SSA will be familiar with all financial requirements for enrollment including; GLBBS tuition, Michigan Works Program, GLBBS Scholarship Program, Veterans Administration, North Central Michigan College Associates Degree Program and any other available funding. After initial contact with a perspective student the SSA will record all information for data base entry, mail requested information, and follow up with additional personal contact. The SSA will assist incoming students with information about housing, travel, tools and general school activities and requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

STUDENT RECRUITMENT

• Will, along with the PD, compile the show and events schedule for the year, estimate the costs of attendance and prepare a budget.

• Create event/recruitment materials; photos, posters, displays for events.

• Be available for travel and attendance at the events.

• Keep a data base of all inquiries related to full time programs.

• Create a schedule for personal follow-up to all inquiries.

• Be available for personal tours of perspective students.

• Work as part of the Marketing Committee to develop the advertising media for publications, events and web based promotional material.

ENROLLMENT

• SSA will be the SCHOOL CERTIFYING OFFICIAL for the Veterans Administration and recruit, advise and track VA students in accordance with VA regulations.

• SSA will be the DESIGNATED SCHOOL OFFICIAL for certifying foreign students through the Department of Homeland Security SEVIS program.

• SSA will advise and help incoming students with the application process according to their individual needs (VA, SEVIS, Scholarship, housing).

STUDENT SUPPORT and CAREER SERVICES

• SSA will maintain a data base of Employment Opportunities through contact with boat shops, museums and other maritime institutions.

• SSA will advise students and graduates of employment opportunities in the maritime and related fields.

• In the final week of Session 1 the SSA will schedule a conference with each current student to assess their goals and appropriate career path. A subsequent meeting will be held to reassess the goals and advise on employment opportunities.

• SSA will keep an updated record of graduation percentages and employment placement.

• SSA to maintain an alum data base and track graduates career progress.

• As part of the application process SSA will advise and help incoming students with appropriate housing.

• SSA will encourage students to participate in school or community sponsored events to enhance their experience at GLBBS and Les Cheneaux Islands.

ACCREDITATION

• SSA will be familiar with all requirements for accreditation through the ACCSC

and work with the PD and approved consultants during the accreditation process.

• SSA will be the School Official for ACCSC application, communication, and on- site visitations.

• SSA will develop a time line and budget for the application process.

• Developments during the Accreditation process will be reported to the PD.

• After approval of accredited status the SSA will maintain records and communications in accordance with ACCSC requirements.

• SSA will maintain records in regard to student retention, graduation rates, and employment.

QUALIFICATIONS STUDENT SERVICES ADMINISTRATOR

BA in Education or three years of experience as relates to job description

Possess strong computer skills with experience in Windows Office Suite

Be able to work within a team management system

Possess positive interpersonal skills along with professional and creative written and oral communication skills

Able to travel for recruitment events

Knowledge of boat building or boating is a plus

Able to work 40 hours per week with occasional weekend hours

Able to fulfill all duties as outlined in SSA Job Description
