Activity 2-1: Performing Initial Configuration Tasks Using Server ManagerTime Required: Approximately 15–20 minutes Objective: Use Server Manager to start configuring Windows Server 2016.Ensure that the Server Manager window is open. In Server Manager under Properties, look to the right of Windows Update and notice that the default installation configuration says Install updates automatically using Windows Update. By default, the Windows Firewall state should be set to On. Close the Windows Firewall window. In Server Manager, click the parameter just to the right of Ethernet. (In Figure 2-14, this is IPv4 address assigned by DHCP, IPv6 enabled) In the Network Connections Window, right-click Ethernet and click Properties. Double-click the IP version in use on your network. If you want to configure a static IP address now, enter the IP info for this computer. Click OK then Close the Network Connections window. Sign in to Windows Server 2016 using your account. 2. If Server Manager is not already open, click Start and click the Server Manager tile (or click Start and click Server Manager under S in the listing of selections). 3. Click Local Server in the left pane of Server Manager.4. Locate Operating system version under Properties in the right pane. Here you’ll see the edition of Windows Server 2016, such as Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Datacenter or Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Datacenter EvaluationActivity 2-3: (Determining if a Computer Is in a Domain or a Workgroup) Time Required: Approximately 5 minutes Objective: Discover if a particular computer is in a domain or a workgroup. 1. Ensure Server Manager is started and that its window is open. 2. If necessary, click Local Server in the left pane of Server Manager. 3. Under Properties in the right pane, look to see if your computer is designated as in a domain or workgroup. Is your computer identified as being in a workgroup or a domain? What name is used? Also, what is the computer name? 4. Leave Server Manager open. 5. Alternatively, you can determine if your computer is in a domain or workgroup from the System window. Right-click Start and click System. Look under the heading Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings. 6. Close the System window.Activity 2-4: Using Windows Update Time Required: Approximately 10 minutes Objective: Use Server Manager to start Windows Update. For this activity, the server should already be connected to the Internet. Open Server Manager. Click Local Server in the left pane. Ensure that you are connected to the Internet.Click the link to the right of Windows Update, which is Download updates only, using Microsoft Update. In the Settings window under Update & security, check to see if there are updates waiting to be installed and if there are, click the Install now button. ................
