Successful Audition Letter

Chula Vista High School Color Guard

If you are reading this, then congratulations on successfully auditioning to be a part of the Chula Vista High School Color Guard for the 2013/2014 school year! We pride ourselves on striving for excellence, and maintaining a high level of performance. You have demonstrated a willingness and passion to learn more about our program and have shown an interest in what we do. This is the first step!

Course Enrollment:

We meet after school for rehearsals. You will be enrolled in 7th period P.E. Rhythm and Movement. Sophomores and up who have passed their Freshmen Fitness Exam will get P.E. credit for the course!

Rehearsals:

During the Fall, the 7th period class meets on the following days and times:

Mondays 3:00 – 4:30 July-Nov. for Parade Band

Tuesdays: 5:00 – 8:00 Rehearsal (only time we get the main Football Field)

Thursdays: 3:00 – 6:00

Fridays: TBA Home Football Games (5 total, Sept. – Nov.)

Saturdays: TBA Field Rehearsals (Aug. and Sept.)

Competitions begin in the beginning of October and run through the middle of December, with most performances on Saturdays.

During the Spring, Winter Guard rehearsals take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 – 6:00.

Students that wish to be a part of a sports team or club can do so as long as it does not interfere with the Band and Color Guard Schedule. We can work with coaches to arrange practices and performances to an extent, though this may impact your placement within the program. We can’t have a successful performance without you!!!

Commitment:

This is a time demanding activity. Attendance is a major factor in determining your grades for 7th period. If you miss multiple rehearsals and/or performances, you will be written out of the shows/performances.

Intersession Rehearsals and Performances:

Rehearsals and Winter Guard Performances take place over the Fall, Spring, and Summer intersessions. Please make arrangements with your families ahead of time when planning vacations. We will not have any rehearsals or performances over the Winter Intersession (Christmas Break).

Costs and Expenses:

We are performers, and as such need to acquire certain articles. Fundraising is available!

Band Shirt $25 (Or a Solid Royal Blue Polo of your own)

Personal flag bag $20 (To carry all of your equipment)

Black dance shoes $32 (To perform in)

Black Jazz Pants Available at Walmart, Target, etc.

*Items need to be paid for, or they can not be ordered.

*Equipment and clothing will be property of the student. If a student needs to replace lost, damaged or missing items, it is their responsibility to replace it.

Financial Responsibility:

No student will be prohibited from participating due to lack of personal financial support. Multiple fundraisers are set up to help meet the financial requirements of the program and students are required to participate to help meet those demands.

What it is really about:

You are becoming a part of a family. If our family is fighting, we cannot function properly. When the Director or a Coach addresses you, you must listen. Members that are returning have already paid their dues and deserve respect. Returning members are charged with making sure new members understand what we do and watch out for all that is going on. We do not view you as a Flag, or a Rifle, but as a Guard Member. As a guard member, you represent years of hard work invested in maintaining the tradition of excellence that is the Chula Vista High School Color Guard. During the Fall you are the visual component to compliment and interpret the Marching Band’s music. You will learn new meanings of the words: Pride, Discipline, Excellence, Perseverance, Dedication, Loyalty, Responsibility, and Fun! You have been selected to be part of an award-winning program that is on the rise! We look forward to working with you!

Congratulations, and welcome to the Chula Vista Color Guard.
