1. Network – A group of two or more computers or other devices that communicate with each other to share resources

2. Peripherals – A printer, scanner, or other device connected to a computer, either directly connected or connected through a network

3. Compatibility – How well two computers can share information with each other

4. Cross-platform Connectivity – Connecting computers that have different operating systems on the same network

5. Platform – Another name for a computer’s operating system

Discussion Questions:

If you want to connect your computer to a network, but your computer has a different operating system from the other computers on the network, what can you do?

If you want to print a document to a certain network printer in a class or the lab, what can you do?

If you are saving a file on a disk at school and want to open it on your computer at home later, how would you decide which format to use when saving it?
