Caney Creek High School Cheerleading Constitution2017-2017Purpose/ ResponsibilityCheerleaders/mascots are representatives of their school and are expected to set good examples and demonstrate high moral standards for other students. They enhance a positive environment by promoting school spirit, pride, and sportsmanship. They will model appropriate behaviors at all times, both in and away from school. If at any time the coach feels that the cheerleader/mascot is representing himself/herself or the squad in an unacceptable manner that could interfere with the integrity of the cheer program, a disciplinary action will result and a possible removal from the squad. This includes electronic communication (twitter, facebook, snapchat, Instagram etc.) CommitmentCheerleading is a time consuming activity and it is the responsibility of each cheerleader to be present at each activity and perform to the best of his/her ability. Cheerleaders spend many hours involved in in practicing, planning pep rallies, painting signs, and actually cheering at games. Everyone must share equally in the behind the scenes work, as well as the cheering before the crowd. Since cheerleading is a team activity, loyalty and dedication to the team is a key ingredient in becoming a successful squad. It is difficult for cheerleaders/mascots to have after school jobs because of the time required in afternoon practice and evening games. If a student does have a job, missing practice or an event because of work will be considered an unexcused absence. ExpectationsBe on time to all events.Be COMPLETELY and CORRECTLY dressed upon arrival to ALL scheduled cheer events (from head to toe, shoes to bow).No jewelry worn during any cheer activity or event.Long nails passed the fingertip is not allowed. Nail polish can only be in nude or French manicure.Profanity will not be tolerated at all. As a member of the CCHS cheer program, you are a representative of the school at all times (in or out of uniform). All cheerleaders/mascots need to be cautious of all electronic means of communication-including cell phones, digital cameras, video cameras, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, SnapChat, etc. If the coach and administration identify a situation as misrepresenting the school, he/she can be subject to removal.PDA IN OR OUT OF UNIFORM WILL NOT BE TOLDRATED. You are a representative of the cheer program at all times.You are required to participate in all fundraisers, events and team bonding activities. You must notify the coaches two weeks ahead of time if an event or practice will be missed due to another school related activity or work. Cheerleaders must be picked up from a scheduled event in the appropriate amount of time. Students will be present at least one-half of the school day to participate in an activity - or at the sponsor’s discretion. Cheerleaders may not leave a practice or any other activity at any time unless approved by the coach. Exceptions: Prior notification of conflicts with school activities will be addressed with the coaches and when appropriate, the principal. Work is not considered an excuse for an absence.Half-time at football/basketball games will be used for a quick restroom break and the remainder of the time will be used for supporting half time performances and for practicing/reviewing. You will be provided with snacks and a drink at all football games, but will not be allowed to eat food from the concession stands or from your parents, unless it is water. Plan on eating full meals before or after games. All areas must be kept clean. You will not be allowed to leave at the end of a game until all areas are clean. Cheerleaders/Mascots will not be permitted to go up into the stands during half-times. FundraisersSince there is limited funding from the school/state, fundraisers are used to help with costs for equipment, supplies, team bonding, community services, events, UIL, homecoming, themes, pep-rallies, etc. The purpose is for the cheerleader/mascot to sell the items, not the parents. Cheerleaders/Mascot can 'buy-out' (cost of profit) of a fundraiser in order to prevent from having to sell, but all members are encouraged to fulfill their duties of a fundraiser. Booster fundraisers are mandatory and will result in a bench if cheerleader/mascot does not participate. Booster will provide a calendar with all future fundraising events. Booster fundraising will help both squads equally, examples of what the funds will go towards:MatsBanquetsChristmas partyTeam dinnerSnacks and drinks for games and other eventsHomecoming itemsGifts for opposing teamsSpirit accessoriesUIL accessoriesCamp spirit day giftsTransportation (Mainly Varsity)Each cheerleader/mascot shall ride school provided transportation to and from activities. To ride home with a parent after an out of town game a written request from the parent/guardian is required. The student will not be released to the parent or to another adult designated by the parent unless the written request is approved. Prior approval from the sponsor is required. Uniforms and AppearanceAll members will be issued a school uniform if the sizes and quantity is available. Cheerleaders/Mascots must sign for the uniform(s) when receive and sign again when the uniform(s) is returned. Lost or damage items must be purchased by the cheerleader/mascot before new pieces are issued. The Cheerleader/Mascot is responsible for the proper care and cleaning of uniforms throughout the year. Uniforms must be cleaned before turning in to the coach at end of year. Stained garments will be charged to the student. Charges must be paid before trying out, lettering/achievement awards, and/or graduating. The coach must approve the uniform fit before being ordered or worn. If at any time the uniform does not fit properly or is too short, the cheerleader/mascot is responsible for getting the uniform fixed. All alterations must be approved by the coach and cannot be permanent in nature (you cannot cut material from the uniform). All alteration fees are the responsibility of the parent/cheerleader/mascot. Shoes must be clean and in good repair at all times (including the laces). Uniforms shall be worn only at scheduled events. At no time should your uniform be worn outside of a scheduled school event, unless authorized by your coach. At no time should anyone who is not a cheerleader/mascot wear your uniform or any other clothing associated with cheer. If a cheerleader or mascot is removed from the squad or forfeits her/his position, the district-owned uniform pieces must be returned, washed and on hangers, within 10 school days. Any damage, missing items, or cleaning of the uniforms must be paid before school records are cleared. Reminder: PDA in or out of uniform is not tolerated.Captains & Co-Captains: The captains and co-captains serve in a leadership role as a liaison between students, faculty, and other cheerleaders and is the spokesperson for the program in public meetings and in front of the student body. The captain does not take place of the coach. The COACH is the only coach for the squad. Captains, other cheerleaders, and parents will not coach the team. You will listen and follow all instructions given by all coaches. Everyone is welcome to offer suggestions and ideas, as long as you handle yourself politely and respectfully. You are not allowed to tell each other what to do, criticize each other, become demanding, or make anyone feel inadequate. Everyone will be treated equally no matter your talent or experience. Varsity Captain Candidates must have been a member of the Varsity squad for at least one year to be eligible for the position. Students entering 9th grade are not eligible to be captain on the Jr. Varsity squad. Eligibility to Participate A cheerleader/mascot must maintain passing grades in all subjects, as set forth by UIL guidelines for participation. Cheerleaders/mascots are expected to maintain good attendance in all classes and are required to attend all cheerleading practices, events, and games without fail. Absences: EXCUSED (must be cleared with your coach first) -The following list qualifies as an excused absence: a doctor's note (marked DOC/HCP with the school), court, family death, school-sponsored event, or a coach approved event. Parental notes (hand written notes from a parent of any type) will not be accepted. The coaches must have a copy of the excuse on file.Absences: UNEXCUSED (family vacations, non-school related events, and other non-UIL activities are unexcused) absences will result in disciplinary action and may result in a bench. Any cheerleader or mascot who is involved in any other activities MUST give all dates, calendars, schedules, events, conflicts, etc., to your coach as soon as your receive the information. Telling your coach the night before or the day of will not be acceptable. If a cheerleader/mascot misses a school day on the same day of the event, he/she may not participate in the event. Extenuating or unusual circumstance may be reviewed by the coaches. If a cheerleader/mascot serves ISS/OSS on an event day, he/she will not be able to participate in the event.Cheerleading Class Guidelines: Cheerleaders may receive a P.E. and/or Fine Arts credit for the cheerleading class; therefore, they shall be expected to dress out in the appropriate attire every day. Daily attendance is mandatory. Failure to attend class may result in disciplinary action. Cheer class starts at 7:20 am sharply. Anyone who is not ready and in the gym at the start of class will be considered late. Tardiness and lack of participation will result in a lowered grade and disciplinary action. Do not arrive with your hair down, without shoes, or halfway dressed. This includes CHEER CLASS. You will receive a TARDY if you are not ready to participate in class at the time set by the coaches. You will also lose two points toward your grade in Cheer Class for every time you wear the wrong clothes, and/or shoes, have on jewelry, are tardy, etc.If a cheerleader/mascot is going to be absent, she/he must call the coach, email the coach, or call the school before 7:00a.m on the day of the absence. If the coach does not receive word of your absence for whatever reason from you or the parent, you will receive a DEMERIT. If you call the school, make sure to request a message be left with the coach, not just the attendance office. Informing another cheerleader of your absence will not count. Coaches must hear from either you or the parent prior to 7 a.m. via email, text message, or phone call. The only excused absences from class are notes from a Health Care Provider (HCP) or Doctor (DOC), funeral, Court (CRT), a coach approved activity, or a school sponsored activity. If you do not have one of the above, it will result in a DEMERIT. In order to participate in events, a cheerleader/mascot must be present at school for at least half a day In order to participate in events, a cheerleader/mascot must participate in the practice before the event. If the before-the-event practice is missed for whatever reason (injury, illness, no-show, etc.), the cheerleader/mascot will not participate (i.e. miss after school practice on a Thursday then cannot be in pep-rally on Friday). If a cheerleader/mascot is out with an injury or ineligible for games and events, she/he will still be responsible for dressing out and participating in class. This time will not be used to put on make-up, study for a test, text, or sleep. If you participate in other activities, school or non-school related, a calendar, meeting schedule, and/or practice schedule must be provided to the coach as soon as it is provided to you. Late notification of an absence without prior approval may result in a bench Opportunities for extra credit may be offered throughout the year. The grades shall be based on, but not limited to: dressing out participation tardiness physical assessments (ex: running a mile in 10 minutes, push-ups, crunches) fulfilling class assignment as determined by the coachConsequences Cheerleaders/mascots may receive additional consequences through our organization for disciplinary infractions that result in school assigned consequences. Extra conditioning: For non-severe, infrequent violations, extra conditioning may be assigned. Examples of conditioning are as follows: running, crunches, push-ups, sprints, lunges, squats, stamina jumps, suicides, burpees, etc. For severe or frequent violations, a bench may be assigned. When a cheerleader/mascot is “benched,” she/he is expected to report—in full uniform—to the assigned event and sit with the coach. The cheerleader/mascot is to yell with the cheerleaders and follow all rules she/he would have to follow if cheering. If a cheerleader/mascot is benched for three complete events, the cheerleader/mascot, may be removed from cheer. During the year, any cheerleader or mascot who misses a major event (i.e. game, peprally, fundraiser, appearance, etc.) will receive a bench. AmendmentsIn the event that a situation arises that is not covered by the procedures set forth in this document, the coach and an administrator shall make the decision regarding that situation. Additions or deletions to the constitution may be made at any time with the approval of the campus principal. If any changes are made, the parents and cheerleaders/mascots shall be notified in writing. ................
