Constitution

Article I Name

The name of this organization shall be Circle K International (CKI). CKI is an international collegiate service organization that is a service leadership program of Kiwanis International.

Article II Purpose

The purposes of CKI are to:

• provide opportunities for students to make a positive impact on campus

• build leadership and professional skills

• provide scholarship opportunities

• provide networking opportunities to meet new people

Article III Membership

Section 1: Any registered student (full or part-time) at Lone Star College-CyFair who is in good standing with the College and fulfills the membership requirements of the organization may be a member. There will be no GPA requirements or credit hour requirements. CKI strives to be inclusive.

Section 2: Members must be current students at Lone Star College-CyFair. Officers or members that fail to complete their service hours but wish to remain the club must write a 450-word essay with a picture included about why they love service or write about an event that they attended. The essay will be published on the CKI Instagram account for all to read. That way the person has to try, since people will be reading their essay. Failure to complete the essay and/or if it happens again, then all the officers will come together and decide whether that person should stay in the club. If the member/ officer could not complete their hours due to personal reasons/hardships, they should email the officer team directly before the due date, and they can try to find a compromise.

Section 3: In order to guarantee equal rights for all members of the Lone Star College-CyFair student body, equal opportunities shall be afforded all students without regard to race, color, sex, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, religion, ethnic or national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other protected status.

Section 5: Privileges of membership. Members attending the mandatory meetings once a month and completing 10 mandatory service hours per semester have a chance to receive scholarships through CKI. Voting privileges will be restricted to Lone Star College-CyFair student members.

Article IV Officers and Advisors

Section 1: Officer positions include President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Editor, Social Officer, and Historian.

Section 2: Officers must be Lone Star College-CyFair students, attend officer meetings, and be committed for fall and spring semesters.

Section 3: The officer term will be a full academic year.

Section 4: Duties of Officers:

• The President shall be the executive officer of this club and shall preside over all meetings of the club. The President shall present the views of the club to the district in relation to the club.

• The Vice President, in the absence of the President, shall preside at all meetings and of the officers, and shall be directly responsible to the President for all activities. The Vice President shall also perform other duties as usually pertain to the office, or as may be assigned by the President or the other officers. The Vice President will be in charge of the Outreach Committee.

• The Secretary shall record accurate minutes of CKI meetings; maintain the club’s permanent records; update all member addresses; publish the club bulletin; and perform other duties as pertain to this office or as may be assigned by the President or the other officers.

• The Treasurer shall collect and disburse member dues; prepare and adhere to an approved budget; maintain accurate records; transact business through CKI school account; keep the officers informed of financial strengths and weaknesses of the club; order club supplies; have the books audited; communicate with the district officers; and perform other duties as pertains to this office or as may be assigned by the President or the other officers.

• The Social Officer will be in charge of the social media accounts and advertising.

• The Historian will be responsible for taking pictures and videos of all club events and will work with the Social Officer on the club’s social media to provide pictures and videos.

Section 5: Should a vacancy in any office occur, it shall be appointed by the members based on a vote.

Article V Elections

Section 1: Elections will be held the second to last week of classes in the spring semester. Elections are held two weeks prior to the end of the officer’s term so that the new electees have two weeks to be trained by the old members.

Section 2: Election Procedures: Any member may run for a position. Positions are appointed by a vote of the members.

Section 3: Run-off Election Procedures: The President only votes in the event of a tie.

Article VI Meetings

Section 1: There will be a monthly meeting. Meeting dates, times, and locations will be determined by the members each semester.

Section 2: The President will call any special meetings. All officers must attend an officer meeting that is separate from a meeting of the full membership. The dates for those meetings will be voted on the officers.

Section 3: Quorum for regular and special meetings shall be ½ of active members.

Section 4: Rules of procedure for this organization shall be based on the Bylaws of CKI.

Article VII Finances

Section 1: Fiscal operating year is September 1 – August 31.

Section2: Dues: $10 will be the annual dues per member and officer. All funds will be collected at the second meeting.

Article VIII Committees

Section 1: Standing Committees: Outreach Committee

Section 2: Candidates will be interviewed and selected by the members.

Section 3: Powers and Duties of Standing Committees:

• Reach out to the community and other clubs on campus to find service events for the club

• Reach out on campus to find new members and to plan recruitment activities

• Report service events ideas to the VP each month.

Article IX Amendments

Section 1: Proposed constitutional amendments shall be presented to the organization in writing.

Section 2: Approval by half of the voting members present at a regular meeting shall pass a proposed change. The change shall be put into effect after approval from the Advisor(s) and the Director of Student Life.

Article X Ratification and Enactment

This constitution shall become the official governing document of the organization, upon ratification by a two-thirds majority vote of the membership, and approval and acceptance by the appropriate recognizing body of Lone Star College-CyFair.
