The total percentage of all duties performed must equal 100 percent.Duty 1General Summary of Duty 1% of Time 30%Personnel ManagementIndividual tasks related to the duty.Hire candidates for vacant positions (this duty requires recruiting, screening, interviewing, and selecting candidates for approximately 12 State Worker 4 positions on an annual basis, 1 shared Accounting Assistant, and 2 Seasonal Parks and Recreation Rangers when vacant). Conduct ongoing training for employees including, but not limited to; policies and procedures, safety issues, hospitality, right to know laws, grooming standards, uniform requirements, and emergency response. Arrange for other necessary training such as CPR, First Aid and AED. Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing work of subordinate employees. Assign equipment, and vehicles to employees to efficiently achieve those tasks. Prepare work schedules for all units and approve/deny time sheets, leave requests, and overtime.Directly oversee tasks involving subordinate employees. Review work and methods of staff for the purpose of improving future work output. Write service ratings. Provide counseling, reprimands, and progressive disciplinary action when necessary. Maintain employee morale and resolve inter-personal conflicts among employees where such conflicts may negatively affect job performance.Duty 2General Summary of Duty 2% of Time 20%Administration / Financial ManagementIndividual tasks related to the duty.Track budget and control expenditures. Responsible for collecting and remitting revenues of all sites assigned. Make bank deposits and ensure that reconciliation and remittance reports are properly completed in a timely manner.Supervise subordinate employees in cash handling, camp registration, recreation passport sales, and other revenue collection.Perform periodic accounting of assigned passports and assign new permits to employees. Prepare weekly reports, incident reports, and other reports as required by the district supervisor and the Division Office. Assist the district supervisor in preparing annual budget and in evaluating long term budget and capital outlay needs. Maintain inventory of equipment and facilities. Update policies and procedures manual. Communicate appropriate information from Department, Division, and District to subordinate employees. Submit Work Item Proposals for major projects and apply for permits for minor repairs.Duty 3General Summary of Duty 3% of Time30%Construction / MaintenanceIndividual tasks related to the duty.Direct employees in the maintenance of buildings, structures, grounds, roads, signs, vehicles, and equipment necessary for the proper operation of a state park, recreation area, harbor, or boating access site. Supervise employees in the planning, layout, maintenance, and construction of campsites, boating access site ramps, parking lots, roads, vault toilets, and skid piers. Train and assist employees in performing routine maintenance activities such as cleaning, mowing, trash removal, landscaping, painting, minor electrical and plumbing repairs, and picnic table re-finishing. Make the determination when it is necessary to call outside vendors to perform construction or repair projects, prepare material lists and specifications of bids, and follow appropriate procedures for contracting vendors. Train employees how to use power tools and equipment safely and efficiently, and how and when to perform periodic routine maintenance on such equipment. Perform formal and informal inspections of the facilities and equipment to ensure safety to visitors and employees and to ensure efficient operations. Supplement maintenance activities including cleaning and snow removal in those facilities during the winter season.Duty 4General Summary of Duty 4% of Time20%Public Relations Individual tasks related to the duty.Act as the primary liaison between the public and the unit. Plan and organize special events. Handle complaints from visitors. Maintain a working relationship with various units of government, neighbors, stakeholders, and special interest groups.Represent the DNR at local functions.
