Trigonometry Project

Algebra 2 College - Trigonometry Project Individual Portion

Due Date: _________________

This project is designed to help you fully grasp the concept of using trigonometry to solve problems. This includes, but is not limited to, finding the length of a missing side and/or a missing angle of a triangle using trigonometry, identifying these problems in everyday life, drawing them, calculating their values, and weaving it all into an interesting, amusing or creative story!

Your task is to develop a story involving the missing angle or missing side of a right triangle. To support your story, you will need to carefully draw a picture or use a photograph or a picture downloaded from the Internet that illustrates the problem in your story. You may use Google Doc Presentation, Glogster, or Word. While you may use a calculator, you will need to include all formulas, equations, and all of the steps required to come up with your answer for your story. The story must be typed. The calculations may be typed or neatly hand written.

This is an INDIVIDUAL project. Each student’s story, pictures, and diagrams should be unique. This part of the project is not to be worked on with another student or tutor. Late projects will incur a deduction of 2 points per school day that the project is late. Project will not be accepted after Thursday 6/18 which is reading day.

Requirements

Final Draft must include: (See scoring rubric on the back of this sheet)

a)      A Creative, Unique, and Imaginative Story that integrates a trigonometry problem

i)         Imaginative . . . be creative!

ii)       The story MUST be more than a few sentences. It must be a STORY. The story should be at least one paragraph( at least 4 sentences in length).

b)      A drawing or an actual picture to illustrate your story

i)         A picture from the internet( citation needed), a photograph the student has taken, or a drawing the student created

ii)       The drawing or picture must be visible and clearly definable

iii)      The picture needs to relate to the story

c)       A diagram of the right triangle needed to solve the problem

i)         Provide a clear representation of the problem

ii)       Include realistic measurements that are labeled appropriately on the triangle

iii)      Include units that are labeled appropriately on the triangle

iv)     Neat (MUST use straight edge, or computer representation)

v)       The diagram can be incorporated into the drawing or picture (above) but it must be clearly legible and visible

vi)     The diagram must be a right triangle, and labeled with a right angle mark

d)      Calculations

i)         Show formulas you used and the original equation you set up

ii)       Show all steps

iii) Double check to make sure your calculations are correct

iv)      Use trigonometry to find at least one angle and/or one side

v) Include units in your answer

e)       An appealing presentation

i)         Professional look

ii)       Story should be typed; follow standard writing conventions (spelling and grammar), if a picture from the internet is used a citation must be provided

iii)     Colorful (at least 3 different colors)

iv)     Appropriate subject for story

v)       Creative title that relates to story

vi)     Size limit per page : 8½ x 11 inches( may be double sided or more than one page)

vii) Name and period included on typed cover page that is stapled to your project. If your project is not stapled and put together before class, you will lose 1 point.
