5. Minors under 18 years of age not traveling with both parents must provide a notarized letter of consent signed by the non-accompanying parent(s) authorizing this Consulate to issue a visa. If only one parent comes to apply for the visa (it does not matter if the minor is traveling with both parents or with only one) this Consulate still needs a notarized letter of consent signed by the parent not present authorizing the issuance of the visa. A copy of the minor’s birth certificate is also required in all cases.

6. A Certificate of vaccination against polio is required for children between ages of three months and six years. If the child cannot be inoculated, a notarized letter from the child's physician will be required.

An International Immunization Certificate against yellow fever is required if the traveler has been to any of the following countries within the last 90 days or will visit any of them before entering Brazil (this includes connection flights and stops): Angola, Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Colombia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, Guyana, Ethiopia, French Guiana, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Panama, Peru, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Suriname, Tanzania, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda and Venezuela. List of countries endemic for yellow fever available at who.int.

8. US citizens must pay a non-refundable $130.00 processing fee, which is charged in reciprocity for an identical fee paid by Brazilian citizens who apply for a visa to travel to the USA. Payments must be in U.S. Postal money order made out to the Consulate General of Brazil. Personal checks and cash will not be accepted. (an additional fee of $10 is charged if someone else submits your application; the total amount of the money order per traveler would be then $140, please see #10)

9. For holders of non-US passports a visa fee may apply. Please click here (or go to ) to determine if you need a visa and the cost of it.

10. Regardless of the nationality, there is a $10.00 fee if the application is not presented in person by the holder of the passport. All consular fees must be paid in U. S. Postal money order made out to the Consulate General of Brazil. Personal checks and cash will not be accepted.

11. Consular officers will only receive applications from candidates who are able to comply with the above requirements.

12. Visa holders must enter Brazil within 90 (ninety) days of issuance of the visa (have this in mind when applying for a visa). Initially, the tourist visa is valid for a 90 day stay. Applicants who wish to remain in Brazil for 90 additional days should request an extension at the local branch of the Brazilian Federal Police Department (Delegacia de Estrangeiros). Tourist visas allow for a maximum stay of 180 consecutive days per year in Brazil. Please remember that bearers of tourist visas should not engage in gainful employment.

13. As a general rule, the visas are ready in 5 business days. Some visas (depending on the applicant's nationality or personal status) may require a longer processing time. If the Consulate is busier than usual, the processing time for visas may be extended. The Consulate does not have an expedite fee.
