Change managementA central part of organisational behaviour is the development of management thinking which might be termed as management theory. The management theory holds great importance for several reasons:(Mullins 11th edition)It helps to relate between the development of theory, behaviour in organisations and management practice. (Mullins 11th edition)Management theories are interpretive and evolve in line with the changes in the organisational environment. (Mullins 11th edition)An understanding of management theory helps in understanding the actual process of management and reasons for the attention given to main topic areas. (Mullins 11th edition)However, if action is to be effective, the theory must be adequate and appropriate to the task to improve organisational performance. We studied different management theories mentioning some of them below:Classical approach: this theory was introduced to manage production, people and the process. (ABI/INFORM collection)Scientific management: this theory concentrated much on the division of work, training of workers, and specialization in addition to tangible incentives (ABI/INFORM collection).Bureaucratic theory: Max Weber formulated the theory of Bureaucratic management in which a set of structuring procedures and guidelines for managing organizations are developed. This theory believes in procedures, rules, and hierarchy and labour division within the organization. (|ABI/INFORM collection)Human relation approach: this focuses on social factors at work and to the behaviour of employees within an organisation. (Mullins 11th edition)Neo-human relations: Neo-human management theory is a human -oriented that emphasize on the needs of behaviour, attitudes, time needs and drives of individuals. It was made to overcome the shortcomings of human relation approach. (ABI/INFORM collections)The systems approach: In systems approach, the management is viewed as a unified system, with a purpose that is composed of interrelated parts, rather than looking at individual segments. This theory gives a bird's overview of the effects in various segments of an organization when one segment is affected. (ABI/INFORM collection)Brexit have bought many problems for the industry operating in UK, the organisations are very worried about the after effects of Brexit. Many of them think that it could be very difficult to operate in the UK market after UK going out of European union. Taking the example of coating industry, the industry is very worried about the future of it after Brexit. A survey of BCF (British coating federation) members, 70 % of the member suggested that Brexit will have a very negative effect on the industry as 60 % of the export is done to European countries and sales were forecasted to go down by 25-30%. Many said that they have to reduce the staff because of sales going down and many suggested that they will have to move the operation out of the country. Tom Bowtell, the chief executive of the federation showed serious concern on the negative effect on the industry because of Brexit, but he added that It could be taken as an opportunity as well. It could give the chance to the industry to look for the markets outside EU such as Asia, Africa and other places, this could help the UK industry to make their own trade agreement outside EU. Exporting to other places can even reduce the cost and can increase the profit margins. The coating industry can take Brexit as advantage by exploring to other markets and finding new places to export. This can help the industry to grow further, the UK govt is with talk with EU for the industry problem, when they come to a conclusion and something is set then European market can be taken as a plus point. I think situational leadership theory should be implemented here, which means after considering the situation after the Brexit organisations working in coating industry should find ways to get out of the situation and this could be done by entering into other markets.
