Mercy Reigns Parish Retreat feedback – there was a lot of energy and things were well done. Brian did not find it his cup of tea though he felt it was well done and executed. He did find that on the last night something did inspire him for Eucharistic ministry. Some people commented that they felt that they were being talked to like they were elementary students; though several of those who made critical comments did come back on other nights. The attendance appeared to be the same night to night though with different people. The second night had late arrivals but they did show up so attendance was good. Bill felt that by the third night, every volunteer was able to easily flow into their roles which made things much smoother. The kids sessions when well, when they brought in the REP students it did make it tougher to manage all those kids. It did allow parents to come as a result of taking care of all the kids however. The teachers were encouraged to attend and were asked if they could limit the homework as much as they could which it looks like both happened. Some felt that in regard to timing, their schedule was very busy with this being scheduled right after Easter. The question was asked if it is possible or worth it to do our own for the next year. This would require someone who would coordinate/manage the event. It might not be the same group we used the next time aroundWe talked about switching off renewal alternate years. Mary Jo had expressed how she had done this in the past and the groups coming in were a positive resource (professional) but when she had done this, they would provide the adult faith formation with content prior to the event so that it can be tied in with promotion and helped everyone involved to be more prepared for the evenings. Having a group provide this allows the volunteers to be able to benefit from another group doing the work. Next steps: if we are looking at 2018 then we should start looking at it now, if we are using an outside group then we should get on their books early to allow more choice and planning. Also determine if this will be done during Lent or non-Lent. As we discuss renewal then the timing of this will form. Renewal programs – Dan had presented to us a couple sessions before about WATCH. Some questions to ask: Are we ready for renewal? This was a recommendation where the alternate to the decision of going with the small church groups to get people more involved. There were lots of questions about what this means to us. Where does this go after the 9 weeks or 3 day session? This is covered in the program (where do we go from here) this would be a seasonal program. Encourage shepherd group who have gone through to take on hosting the next one. Is the point of renewal to go home and be a better catholic or is there a next step (something more directed)? What is the difference between renewal and the parish retreat? It was favorable to alternate yearly from renewal to mission. Renewal intent it to help people’s faith grow (sited RCIA as a positive example). Is this the right program? Is there an advantage to doing this as opposed to CHIRP? This is a proven program that some of us have experienced. At the end, if people are expected to give the next one, that sometimes makes people hesitate to take on that responsibility. Does this do what we need it to do? Are small church groups sufficient enough? SCG does require constant effort to keep them going. This is in addition to small church. There was concern that this program does not resonate with the current generation. Mary Jo had relayed her experience with renewals and what worked was having groups in common and not trying to artificially group people based on a varying demographic. Too much structure made it hard for people to connect. If this program is not the one, we might put a focused effort on outreach. There were some positive thoughts on going this route than on renewal. The group felt that there is a lot more benefit in going to a more action and outreach effort than personal reflection. The points in the program (Grace, action, prayer, etc) can all be tied into an outreach effort. The purpose of outreach is to make the world better while forming your faith. This also connects youth with how they can impact the world and is not just discussing faith but is action on faith. Also the small church communities will also be able to participate as the next evolution. We want to be able to integrate this with the outreach commission to find synergy.Outreach could also be a reflection on the year in mercy. The group reached consensus that a traditional renewal program is not what we are looking to pursue. We are going to wrap renewal around service/action.When do we want to do this? Bill will connect with outreach commission to collaborate to enhance their efforts. Get together here, go out and outreach then come together again to discuss. Brian will reach back out to Dan on our decisionShould we present to the parish that we have decided to not pursue a renewal but rather go towards an outreach program? The concern is that we make sure that the parish understands what direction we are going and how we will be proceeding. Once we have connected with outreach we should have more information to be able to form a communication. Brian will also bring it up to the other commissions to see if there is a way to connect them all with outreach. 2016 – 2017 Wednesday night programs – Top 10 as selected by the FFC:Understanding the poor and homeless - (5votes)Sacramental life – annulment process and the topics the pope has commented on (what are these topics?) – (4)Alternatively; what can we learn more about the sacraments Topics on parenting – join with fun prayers to say with kids - (4)Contemplation on everyday life (maybe a different title), What is Discernment - (3)Looking at other religions (or other Christian denominations) – (3)Everything you wanted to know about Catholicism (as a series focused on a topic) – (2)Taze – (2)My adult children have left the church, now what?
