SensusAccessWhat is SensusAccess?A web-based automated document conversion service that allows you to use SensusAccess to convert readings into alternate formats. SensusAccess also works to make documents that aren’t accessible into accessible documents.Accessibility services: Otherwise inaccessible documents such as image files in GIF, TIFF, JPG, BMP, PCX, DCX, J2K, JP2, JPX, DJV and image-only PDF, as well as all types of PDF files can be converted to more accessible formats including tagged PDF, DOC, DOCX, Word XML, XLS, XLSX, CVS, text, RTF and HTML. The service also supports conversion of Microsoft Office documents into tagged pdf and Microsoft PowerPoint presentations into RTF files and web-projects.Braille services: Transcription of documents to and from contracted and uncontracted Braille in accordance with Braille codes. The documents can be formatted and paginated, and delivered as ready-to-emboss files in a variety of digital Braille formats.Audio services: Conversion into plain MP3 files and well as DAISY Talking Books, including Daisy books with spoken math.?E-book services: Documents can be converted into EPUB, EPUB3, EPUB3 with media overlays and Mobi Pocket (Amazon Kindle) e-book formats. Furthermore, EPUB may be converted into Mobi Pocket and vice versa. To accommodate users with low vision, the baseline of the body text in an e-book may be raised to allow for more appropriate text scaling in mainstream e-book readers.This service is not recommended for materials containing confidential or private information.SensusAccess is available to all students, faculty, and staff with a Tufts University email address. How do I use SensusAccess?If you find it easier to read in a different language, select the flag of the country that speaks that language, and the interface will adjust update to be in that language.You can chose to upload either a File, URL or plain text. For each option, there are clear steps to follow, the steps below are for the most commonly used portion of uploading a file.Navigate to your media source as a File (which is the default).Select the “Choose Files” button, and navigate and open the file or files you want to work with. You are free to add multiple files as long as they are all the same file format type.You will know which files have been selected by the sudden appearance of the name of the document beside the “Choose Files” button.Select the “Upload” button. For larger files, there will be a small bar you can hover over in the bottom left of the screen that reads what percentage of the file has been uploaded. You know you are successful when Step 2 appears.Next, select the output format you would like. In this case, We are going to select “Accessibility Conversion”. Once you select the output format, Step 4 will appear.The options in Step 4 in the drop down menu will be file formats available based on what file type the input file is and what kind of output format was selected. For this example, we are selecting “pdf – Tagged PDF”.Step 4 requires you to input your @tufts.edu email address (other email addresses will not work). Press Submit. If you press the enter key, you will have to re-do your work.The submission is successful when you have been re-directed to the Receipt page.Depending on the file length you will receive an email with an attachment at the email address you provided within a few minutes, or longer (such as 15 minutes to a half hour) if the document is over 30 pages.Important Policies of note:All users must comply with applicable laws, including copyright laws.
