Scan/Convert Image to Text

Typically, scanned documents (like the PDFs created using the Ricoh multifunction devices' scan feature) are very large images, graphical representations of the scanned original. In addition to enormous file size, scanned images cannot be searched, since the "text" is only a picture made up of dots, containing no actual data.

Fortunately, there are two solutions:

? Scan using Acrobat Pro DC and a "personal" scanner. Acrobat automatically performs Object Character Recognition (OCR), analyzing the scanned information and, where possible, converting images back into text.

? Open a PDF (or other) image file in Acrobat Pro and run Recognize Text (OCR).

Scan and Run OCR

1. Launch Adobe Acrobat Pro DC. 2. Place the first page of your document face-down in the scanner. 3. Click Tools on the task bar and then click Create PDF.

The Create PDF dialog will appear.

4. Select Scanner and then click Next. 5. Respond to prompts as appropriate.

The document will be scanned and OCR performed.

NOTE: If scanning more than one page, place the next page in the scanner before selecting "scan more pages" and clicking OK.

6. When complete, save the PDF.
