FRIEDLANDERCOURSE SYLLABUS FOR 2020- DESCRIPTION This course provides students with the foundation for more advanced mathematics courses and enables them to develop the skills they need to solve mathematical problems. Course content includes variables, real number systems, equations and inequalities, relations and functions, graphs, rational and irrational numbers, factoring, introductory statistics, and radicals. Students must pass the end-of-course exam to earn credit.CLASS RULES1) Respectful, courteous behavior should be exhibited at all times.2) Students should be on time and where they should be.3) Electronic devices may not be used without permission.4) The dress code should be followed.5) Students should have passes when not in their assigned areas.CONSEQUENCESFirst Offense – verbal warningSecond Offense – thirty minute detentionThird Offense - referralIf the situation warrants, the consequences can be made more severe. The Student Handbook will be used as a reference for any rules not covered by this Rules and Policies paper.ATTENDANCEStudents will have twice the number of days, including weekend days, to make up work as the andnumber of days they were absent. Unexcused absences will result in zeroes for missed work.MAKE-UP WORKIf you have an excused absence : *In-class quiz – nothing to make up. Your next test grade will also count as the gradefor the missed quiz.*Assignments must be turned in according to the policy stated above.*Review Day : You are still expected to take the test as scheduled.*In Class Test : You must take the test within a week of when you return to school orby appointment.*Grades will be updated on Canvas and/or Focus as soon as possible. TARDIESUnexcused tardies will have the following consequences per quarter :First – warningSecond – after school detentionThird – tardy referralFourth – tardy referral and LATE for the day (unexcused absence)Students must bring a signed pass to class for a tardy to be excused.ACADEMICOf course, cheating is unacceptable in all cases and will result in a zero for the work theINTEGRITYcheating occurred on as well as disciplinary consequences including multiple detentions and referrals. Cheating can have long lasting effects on your future, possibly leading to your exclusion from a preferred college or university.GRADESThe state grade scale will be used to determine letter grades : 90-100 A, 80-89 B, 70-79 C,60-69 D, & 0-59 F. Your grade will be determined using a point system. Your grade will be your points earned divided by the points possible.NOTEBOOKSStudents are strongly encouraged to keep an organized notebook containing assignments, quizzes, exams, and notes. Notebooks will be graded as announced.EXTRAYou will be given a few opportunities for extra credit each quarter. You are encouraged toCREDITtake advantage of those chances when they occur. SUPPLIES*School provided Chromebook or your own device. Remember to charge the night before.*Notebook (3-ring binder, but whatever keeps you organized). Have a stash of paper in whichto write notes and to show work on.*Earbuds for when you need to assigned videos.*Scientific calculator is highly recommended, *Pencils, pens, highlighters. Assignments, quizzes, and tests should be written in pencil.DIGITAL ACADEMY*Digital Academy students (DA) are expected to sign in within five minutes of the scheduledSTUDENTSstart time for class and remain on-line until the end of class or until instructed to withdraw fromclass. Failure to login and participate virtually may result in an absence.*Comment/chat messages must be professional in nature. This is not the time nor the place to express individual frustration. Comments of teacher screen not being visible or teacher microphone being muted are helpful when done in a respectful way.*When joining a class/meeting late, be aware you may have to wait for to be approved to enter.To ask a question during a required attendance time, DA students will need to send Mr. Friedlander a Remind message.*If there is enough interest, Mr. Friedlander will conduct one to two help sessions per week over Teams. You can take a goodpicture of your work and convert it to pdf format using camscanner (Android). Using an iPhone,use the Notes feature of your phone (see the camera option). Most inkjet printers have the option of converting documents to pdf’s.*Be familiar with Canvas and Focus.*Be on your best behavior.
