PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

We have had a busy fortnight at Blackville with many visitors and extra activities.

Healthy Harold

The Blackville students travelled to Spring Ridge to join in on the ‘Healthy Harold Fun’ this year. Harold shared his wealth of information on cyber bullying, looking after your body and how to say ‘no’ in a peer pressure situation. The children had a great time working collaboratively to discuss many issues. Thank you to Mrs Parsons and the Spring Ridge children for hosting a great day.

Amps

We were delighted to have a visit from an Amps Commercial representative this week. Jenny Potter came to Blackville on Wednesday to present a cheque to the students. The schools rebate scheme is a wonderful Amps initiative, which allows a percentage of purchased items to be donated back to a nominated school annually. Thank you to community members for supporting our school. Please continue to support this initiative by putting Blackville PS down as ‘your’ school. Thank you.

Liverpool Shire Council Environmental Presentation

The children thoroughly enjoyed discussing the topic of ‘litter’ with Maura from the LPSC this week. The hands-on activity was so informative and the children learnt a lot about rubbish, recycling and the importance of keeping our schools, communities & water ways free from rubbish. Thank you to the LPSC for providing this educational activity for the Blackville students.

AAS

The children have had a double dose of Active After School this week. Watch out when the circus comes to town parents! The students’ circus skills are improving week by week.

Regional Athletics

Good luck to Dane Saunders tomorrow at the Regional Athletics Carnival in Tamworth. He has been training in his lunch hours since the zone carnival and is really looking forward to competing.

Federal Election

Voting…. just a reminder that Blackville Public School will be a Polling Place for the upcoming election. Please use this service if possible. Use it or we will lose it!

Principals Award

This week’s principal’s award was presented to Dane Saunders for producing an excellent information report. Well done Dane.

LIVE LIFE WELL

Turn off the TV or computer and get active

✓ Set a limit on the amount of time children watch television or spend on the computer. Two hours a day is the maximum. Too much screen time limits physical activity.

✓ On the weekend, live life instead of watching it on TV. Find a new place to hike, bike or run. When you hear “I’m bored” – think of something active to do.

✓ During the winter months, avoid allowing children to watch too much TV or play video games. Encourage active play, which builds social, mental and physical motor skills.

Preparing for Year 7

The transition from primary school to high school maths can be difficult for both you and your child. However, by working in partnership with your child and using some careful forward planning, the transition can be smooth and successful.
