Observing (weather permitting)

Noon – 3pm Solar Observing through telescopes with visible and h-alpha filters.

8:30 – 10:30pm The Night Sky

Short Presentations

11:30 – noon The Sun

Learn about the structure and features visible on the sun, then go and take a SAFE look through the telescopes setup for observing the sun.

3:30 – 4:30 Astrophotography Basics

So how do they take those really cool astrophotos?? Learn about the basics – what equipment, how, exposures.

4:45 – 5:00 What are Comets Made of?

This demonstration talks about comet composition.

5:15 – 5:45 Astronomy Park Proposal

Students in the SDU program “explore the universe” have been working on some ideas for a possible ‘Astronomy Park’ on the property known as the ‘landfill.’ Learn about the ideas and let us know what you think.

7:30 – 8:00 Observing satellites

Satellites are often easier to see than most people think. It just helps to know when and where to look. This presentation will teach you how to find satellites. Then weather permitting, we’ll try to observe a few after dark!

8:00 – 8:30 Observing the Galilean Moons

While most celestial objects appear to be static and unchanging from night to night, Jupiter’s largest moons obviously move around. Find out how to identify them each night and other fun observations to make.

8:30 – 9:00 Observing projects

Tired of looking at the same ol’ stuff? Learn about the different kinds of observing projects that exist that will challenge you and give you a purpose in your observing sessions.

Garage Sale

Noon – 3pm What are we thinking?

We have a trailer full of old books, equipment, glass plates… What astronomical treasure will you find?
