The tourists soaked up the sunshine and took photographs. Suddenly, the engine failed and the boat started drifting back towards the Falls. What happened next? You could begin like this: The Falls seemed to drag the boat towards it, like a huge unrelenting magnet. The tour guide spoke of pirate treasure while your eyes scanned the dark caves of the small Caribbean island. The group moved on, but just as you were leaving something caught your eye. What was it? Additional activitiesWhile running on a quiet beach one day, you suddenly slipped down a hole as the sand gave way. Where did you find yourself? You became separated from your family on the first day of your holiday in Paris. What did you do? What happened? Creative Writing : Topic 2 – Inventions Professor Potts put the strange black box on the table. Then he announced: “Inside this box is my latest invention. It’s bright red, as big as a football but shaped like a wreath. When thrown it behaves like a Frisbee as it skims through the air. You’ll hear a piercing sound and notice snowflakes falling on your back garden or park.” Describe another invention Professor Potts might have in the box: Inside this box is … Think of a task you do not like to do. Then invent a machine to do it. Perhaps something to make your bed, or wash the dishes! Give it a name and describe it. Draw and label a picture of it at work. Describe the day you flew the first powered plane. How did you feel as you sat at the controls? SpellingsDaily: My spelling workbook You should be learning 6 new spellings from the list every day. Aim to complete 1-2 pages of your unit a day. Look, say, cover, write, check. You could even ask someone at home to give you a quick test at the end of the week if this helps to keep you motivated! (Maybe you’ll earn a reward if you get a certain amount of spellings correct?) Reading – don’t forget just how important reading is. It is a great way to occupy yourself and learn new vocabulary. Keep a copy beside you to note any new words you have learnt and check the meaning in your dictionaries if you are unsure! Feelings Diary During these uncertain times, we are all feeling a lot of different emotions, and some of them can be tricky to deal with! To help, you could try keeping a feelings diary or log and write in it regularly. This will help you to monitor and be aware of the range of feelings you experience over a period of time. You can draw pictures of the cool things you are doing or you can take pictures if you are able to. If you are cooking a new recipe with your parents, why not write it down using your knowledge of Procedural Writing?! Make it your own and you will be amazed what you will have at the end of all this! Ps. I am making one too, so you’ll get to see everything I’ve been doing to keep myself busy too! ................
