This packet provides information regarding admission procedures and required courses. This admission packet has been designed to answer questions about the program and provide the Program Application Form. Applications may be mailed or hand delivered to the Surgical Technology Office at H201, in the Cary Israel Health Sciences Building on the Central Park Campus in McKinney, Texas. The Application Form can be mailed to: Central Sterile Processing Program Director, 2200 W. University Drive, PO Box 8001, McKinney, Texas 75070-8001.The Certificate in Central Sterile Processing is a 2 semester program. Classes are scheduled online the first semester. Enrollment is limited and competitive. Admission to Collin College does not guarantee admission to the Central Sterile Processing Program. Upon successful completion of the program the student is awarded a Certificate in Central Sterile Processing after passing the national exam.CertificationGraduates of this program are eligible to sit for the national certification examination administered by the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM). Those students passing the exam are allowed to use the title Certified Registered Central Service Technician.Admission CriteriaSpecific program requirements are outlined in this packet. However, specific program requirements and program admission requirements and acceptance criteria are subject to change at any time and without notice. It is the applicants responsibility to keep informed of current program requirements. The size of classes is limited by the available clinical resources for learning and the availability of qualified central sterile processing faculty.Register and pay, $45, in the Castle Branch Immunization Tracker. Students should be aware that admission to the college does not guarantee admission to the Central Sterile Processing Program. Applications for the Central Sterile Processing Program will not be considered for students who have not completed a Collin College admission application.Submission of a copy of your GED Certificate or high school transcript noting pleted and signed Central Sterile Processing Application Form, turned into the office in the Health Science office, plete upload of documents to CASTLE BRANCH of all immunizations recommended by the Department of State Health Services ( ) OR ( )? Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis – primary series or booster within the last 10 years? MMR - one or two doses if born before 1957 ? Varicella – 2 doses or documented age-appropriate vaccination or physician report of evidence of disease (chicken pox)? Hepatitis B – three dose series at 0, 1 and 6 monthsUpload a copy of your personal health insurance card, front and back to CASTLE BRANCH.Upload a copy of your current American Heart Association BLS CPR card, front and back to CASTLE BRANCH.Agree to a criminal background check. Findings from the background check that do not meet clinical affiliation specifications will result in the student not being admitted to the pletion of the PSB for Health Occupations Examination prior to the deadline for application.Submit a handwritten, well-developed, one to two page essay discussing why Central Sterile Processing has been selected as a career choice and why attendance at the Collin College program is desired. Submit this essay with your application form.Request two letters of reference from employers or teachers (not friends or family) that can attest to your character and aptitude in a healthcare career. University DriveMcKinney, TX 75070-8001Once admitted to the program:Before the beginning of the clinical semester you will be requested to submit written proof of a Quantiferon Gold, IGRA or T-spot TB BLOOD test only or clear chest x- ray post conversion dated before the beginning of clinical rotations. Also, you will be instructed when to take the Flu shot, as that should not be done before October.Be in good health and provide physical examination and eye examination records. Attend a mandatory student orientation meeting prior to the program’s first semester.Participate in assessment of Core Performance Standards as defined by College policy and be reviewed by the ACCESS department if accommodations are necessary. (To review Core Performance Standards, see the Surgical Technology Web Site at colllin.edu/surgtech.)Pass a drug screen at the student’s expense when requested by the program. Positive drug screens can result in students not being admitted to the program.Purchase school approved uniforms from the bookstore, if required, for clinical experiences.NOTE: Students interested in admission to the program should see their physician and begin immunizations 4 months prior to turning in your rmation about the PSB ExamRegister early! The exam has limited space and fills on the first-come, first serve basis. Students may take the PSB for the Central Sterile Processing Program once in a 12 month period. PSB results are good for one year. If you have previously taken the Health Occupations Aptitude Examination or if you have taken the PSB for nursing, be sure to notify the program director by phone so a copy of your scores can be filed with your Central Sterile Processing admisison file and evaluated for points.Fees: $45 non-refundable fee, Cash, check, credit card or money order only, all payable in the cashier’s office or over the phone before you schedule the test date.
