Okanogan Middle School

Biographical InformationHere is a self portrait.I’ve been a teacher here at Okanogan High School since 1994. I have earned a B.A in Anthropology from Humboldt State University and a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Washington University. I earned National Board Certification for English Language Arts in 2003. At various times I have taught English 7, English 9, English 9ac, English 10, English 12, English 12ac, AP Literature and Composition, French 1 and 2, Journalism, Keyboarding, World History, Creative Writing, and Anthropology. I especially love to expose young adults to Shakespeare and Poetry. However, teaching French comes in a close second. Basically, I love teaching… everything… too much. I am always trying to bring in new technology and learning opportunities for my students each year. Here is another picture of a younger me taken by a past assistant.I am married with two daughters. Other “members of the family” include a dog, a cat, a bird, and too many houseplants to count. I’m not sure plants count as members of the family but I do spend a lot of time caring for them. Most of the joy in my life comes from spending time with my wife and daughters. I can occasionally be seen lurking in the produce section of Safeway because I love to cook. In fact, it is my favorite hobby. I also enjoy landscaping and home remodeling. Of course, as an English teacher, I love to read just about anything. I probably spend the most time in the sports section or online reading about the Mariners. You might also see me riding my bike or walking the dog. Generally, I stay pretty close to home. I love to tell terrible third-grader style jokes. I tell one every day in class. My favorite corny joke involves food: What do you call cheese that doesn’t belong to you? … Nacho Cheese! If you want more jokes just check the “Openers” table on my class pages. World languages and cultures are another important interest in my life. In my youth I lived for extended periods of time in Egypt and Ghana. I speak English, French, Spanish and Ewe reasonably well but would also like to learn Italian and Portuguese before I die.I don’t suppose you know everything you need to know about me but I can’t think of anything else to say. So if you have any questions send me an email by clicking on the link below. I will probably answer you! I hope you find the rest of the site useful or enjoyable or both.doconnor@oksd.wednet.eduSincerely,Dennis ................
