Wines of Portugal launches online wine academyResponding to the growing interest in knowing more about Portuguese wines and the different wine regions and adapting its training sessions to the current pandemic context are the starting point for the creation of the “Wines of Portugal Online Education Course”, a Wines of Portugal initiative. Aimed at restaurant and retail professionals as well as consumers looking to deepen their technical knowledge about wines, this online academy is being launched on the 1st of July. Registration is free.Available on the Wines of Portugal website, this course challenges those interested to learn more about the diversity of the 14 Portuguese wine regions through six educational modules, covering a variety of topics related to the sector, from history, wine regions, grape varieties, fortified and sparkling wines to the pairing of food and wines and comparison of Portuguese grape varieties with foreign grape varieties. In each module, information will be provided to participants on the theme of the session, followed by a questionnaire in which knowledge will be assessed. It is possible to advance to the next module when you have 80% or more of success in this test. The course was designed to suit the desired pace and the available time of each participant, making it possible to download the content for a more detailed study and resume the course later from where it was when the person logged out of the session. At the end of the six modules, all participants receive the Wines of Portugal certificate, which certifies the successful completion of the training. For the Chairman of ViniPortugal, Frederico Falc?o, “this online academy is a contribution of Wines of Portugal to maintain and stimulate training and education on Wines of Portugal, benefiting from the added value of online platforms. Despite the exceptional moment we are experiencing, we understand that there is an opportunity and desire on the part of different audiences to deepen the knowledge about terroirs, grape varieties and wines that we have and that make Portugal a unique wine producer. In addition to international promotion, this academy responds to Wines of Portugal’s purpose of contributing to the expansion of wine culture in our country”, concludes the Chairman of the Association.
