Job Description: Instructs and supervises students in various areas of cosmetology to include hair, skin, and nails. Develops program and course outlines; evaluates students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives. Payment method for employees assigned to this job is APO, “lump-sum, fee- for-service.”

Job Responsibilities:

1. Instruct students in skilled or basic vocational and technical areas.

2. Develop program and course outlines, goals and objectives.

3. Evaluate students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives

4. Request and maintain supplies and equipment.

5. Develop teaching methods and maintains management procedures and documentation.

6. Manage student records.

7. Maintain program certification requirements.

8. Meet with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of the students.

9. Assist with recruitment, retention and job placement efforts.

10. Ensure safety and security requirements are met in the training areas.

11. Attend in-service trainings, workshops, seminars and conferences.

Sample Technical Competencies:

1. Ability to develop lesson outlines and materials for subject matter.

2. Knowledge of vocational area of assignment.

3. Ability to lecture and explain basic theory.

4. Ability to administer tests to evaluate progress.

5. Ability to use video, audio, and other types of equipment to present lessons.

6. Demonstrate and monitor all phases of cosmetology which include manicures, pedicures, nail wraps, acrylic nails, nail tips, chemical relaxers, permanent waves, finger waves, artificial hair, all types of styles, haircuts, facials, lash and brow tints, waxing, etc.

7. Knowledge concerning the chemistry of products and able to explain chemistry of all products used in the Cosmetology industry.

8. Ability to supervise individualized programs.

9. Write evaluations.

10. Computer skills desirable

11. Excellent communication skills.

Entry Qualifications:

Current Master Cosmetology license from the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology is required. A current Georgia State Board of Cosmetology Instructor license is preferred. A high school diploma or GED *and* a minimum of three years work experience in the field of cosmetology.

Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the courses assigned.
