Regional Relations:

- The only two embassies located in Jerusalem are those of El Salvador and Costa Rica; Israel maintains full diplomatic relations with all the countries of Central and South America and the Caribbean region, except Cuba.

- In 2005, Israel signed a framework agreement with MERCOSUR.

- In 2007 Israel signed a Free Trade Agreement with MERCOSUR

- Trade (2004): A billion dollars worth of Israeli goods is sold annually to Latin America

- Trade (2006): 4% of total exports goes to Central and South America and 2% of Israel imports comes from Central and South America

Argentina:

- signed the “declaration on the intention to explore the cooperation posibilities on know-how and tech transfer” in 2005

- also signed in 1960 a CONVENTION ON COMMERCE, the countries giving the Most Favored Clause for Commerce to one another []

Brazil (aside from agreement with Mercosur):

- signed in Feb 2007 a MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE STATE OF ISRAEL AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE FEDERATIVE REPUBLIC OF BRAZIL ON BILATERAL COOPERATION IN PRIVATE SECTOR INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

- trade: Brazil exports to Israel – 261 mil USD (2006); 272 mil USD (sept 2007); main items exported: agricultural products, food, metals; Israel exports to Brazil – 458 mil USD (2006); 458 mil USD (sept 2007); main items exported: chemical and derived products, electrical high tech machinery []

- in 2006 Israel and Brazil signed MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING CONCERNING CONSULTATION AND COOPERATION AND THE EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION BETWEEN THE SECURITIES COMMISSION OF BRAZIL AND THE ISRAELI SECURITIES AUTHORITY []

Chile:

- has a TRADE AND ECONOMIC COOPERATION AGREEMENT that is in force since 1988 and some others concerning safety and tourism []

Colombia:

- Colombia is the 3rd most important commercial partner for Israel in LatAm; 90% of the trade between Columbia and the Middle East is between Columbia and Israel, maintaining a Trading level of 200 millions USD. Israel imports from Columbia raw materials, minerals, agricultural products and telenovelas ( Israel exports in Columbia irigation systems, agro-industrial equipment, chemical products, communication systems and health products. []

- They signed in 1986 an AGREEMENT FOR TRADE AND ECONOMIC COOPERATION and in 1986 a GENERAL AGREEMENT FOR TECHNICAL COOPERATION []

Dominican Republic:

- signed in 1963 the JERUSALEM CONVENTION FOR TECHNICAL COOPERATION BETWEEN THE STATE OF ISRAEL AND THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC and in

- they have accepted 100000 israeli immigrants (from the WWII) but only about 500 came in during the ‘40s and have formed a community in the Republic, up north in the region called Sosúa []

Ecuador:

- has signed in 1963 an AGREEMENT FOR AGRICULTURAL AND TECHNICAL COOPERATION

Mexico:

- A Free Trade Agreement between Mexico and Israel, concluded in 2000, adds a new dimension to this sphere. Exports, including chemicals, high-tech software, agricultural produce, machinery and electronics, and imports, consisting mainly of meat, grain, corn, sugar, cocoa, coffee and metals, are both on the increase, and Israeli banks, construction firms and agricultural planning and development companies are active in the countries of Central and South America and the Caribbean. []

- In 1966 a Convention for technical cooperatiopn between the State of Israel and the United States of Mexico regarding the Atomic/Nuclear energy and tech cooperation was signed []

Peru:

- signed in 1975 the AGREEMENT FOR TECHNICAL COOPERATION BETWEEN ISRAEL AND PERU FOR THE RURAL DEVELOPMENT AND COLONIZATION PROJECT IN SOUTH PERU and in 2005 the AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE STATE OF ISRAEL AND THR GOVERNMENT OF PERU IN THE FIELDS OF TOURISM

- the Israeli community is represented in parliament under the “Liga Parlimentaria Peru-Israel” []

Uruguay:

- signed in 1998 the AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE STATE OF ISRAEL AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE ORIENTAL REPUBLIC OF URUGUAY FOR THE RECIPROCAL PROMOTION AND PROTECTION OF INVESTMENTS []

- total trade about 100 mil USD; Uruguay exports meat and meat products while Israel exports to Uruguay agricultural products, risk and telecommunication systems, electrical products, cosmetics etc

- close relations, important Israeli community
