Chicago Public Schools

12/2/20 Dear Parents and Community Members, As you know, Prekindergarten (Prek) and Cluster students return to school on Monday, January 11, 2021 and K-8 students on Monday, February 1, 2020. Pre-K and Cluster Students will return to a 5 day a week full day schedule, and k-8 will return to a hybrid schedule with students coming to the building 2 days a week. Chicago Public Schools sent all parents a text and email with an intent to return form that is due back on December 7, 2021. Failure to complete the form will mean your student will continue to learn virtually. To help families learn more about the return to school plans, CPS sent via email a Parent Return to School Guide. I would advise you to read through the guide to help you make a better understanding of what school will look and sound like for your child in 2021. There are still many unanswered questions as we are still working on our return to school plans. In order to help you better understand the plan, we are hosting a Town Hall Meeting on December 3, 2020. You can choose 1 of the 2 time slots based on your availability: 9:00 am @ meet.rzu-yiic-sjy +1 650-479-1799? PIN:?483 673 056#??5:00 pm @ meet.cxq-sdgy-xrh +1 904-323-0194?? Child Learning HubsThe district has released a survey of need for families looking for child care support through our Child Learning Hubs (cps.edu/school-reopening-2020/)Frequently Asked Questions regarding Child Learning Hubs?Complete this survey if you are interested in enrolling your child. Please note that space is limited and seats will be offered to high-needs students first. If one of these sites is not convenient for you and your family, please review these external child care options on My Chi My Future’s webpage (explore.)Using Technology Responsibly We have had some recent situations where students are logging into old Google Meet sessions to meet with their friends and to talk. While we know that meeting and talking to friends is important, the only time students are allowed to meet without an adult is during a breakout room that is supervised by the teacher. Thank you for your cooperation!Local School Council Results Congratulations to the parents and teachers who ran for the Local School Council and won! Below are the names of our LSC members for the next 2 years: Tamika Holman?Shemeal Kemper?Jameta Rogers?Courtney Blake?Maureen Schleyer?Tiffany Gaines?Patricia Flanagan?Theresa Hill?Updated Uniform Guidance & Preparing for Returning to School During the summer the Local School Council voted to pause Barnard’s Uniform Policy and to adopt Barnard’s Out Of Uniform Guidance as our School Wide Guidance for this school year. This was done because the Local School Council does not want families to have to stress out about uniforms during the pandemic. Thus, Barnard students do not have to wear a specific uniform this year. However, the students do have to follow appropriate clothing guidelines, which are attached to this email. Please review these guidelines with your children. If you have young children, you should purchase clothes that students can easily pull up and down when using the bathroom so there is limited contact between adults and students. If students can’t tie their shoes, please purchase Velcro Shoes. Please have your students wear clothes and items that students can easily take on and off. Furthermore, now is a great time to practice with your students how to put their coats on by themselves. Here is a great video called flip and dip that will help you and them, learn how to do this: .
