Volunteer GuidelinesLevel One Volunteers 1. Chaperoning overnight school-sponsored trips (also required per Student Travel Policy) 2. A volunteer with regular, direct contact with children for 10 hours/week or more for parents/guardians volunteering where child attends and 5 hours/week for non-parent volunteers 3. Coaches, Assistant Coaches 4. Student teachers and pre-service teachers 5. One-on-One tutors or mentors 6. Volunteer activity where there may be ongoing individualized interaction with a student(s) or unsupervised contact 7. Any volunteer activity where a funding agency requires criminal record clearance Examples:Overnight Field Trip ChaperonesMentorsTutorsCoachesNon – supervised classroom helpers (small group and/or independent work in the hallways)Field Trip Chaperones (usually volunteers are in charge of small group and unsupervised)Level Two Volunteers 1. No ongoing individualized interaction with students (less than 5 or 10 hours/week, provided there is direct supervision by regular school employees) 2. Parents/guardians accompanying his/her child’s class on a one-day field trip or another type of extra-curricular activity that does not involve an overnight stay 3. LSC members who have completed a background check as part of LSC requirements 4. Volunteers working on projects/activities involving no or nominal contact with children 5. CPS employee volunteers who have a background check for employment Examples:Assistants in schools with administrative dutiesSupervised activities with studentsVolunteer Registration ProcessALL Volunteer candidates must complete a volunteer application through the Chicago Public Schools CiviCore database. Please visit:?.Candidate Seeking Level I ApprovalCandidate Seeking Level II Approval1. Volunteer Programs will provide guidance by email regarding the next steps: TB test & background check. This includes supplying all associated documents, and explicit instructions for submission.1. If candidate is seeking "level II" approval, the Volunteer Coordinator must approve them as a volunteer candidate in the CiviCore; then, they will receive notification of approval status via email.2. The CPS Department of Safety and Security will contact candidate directly with any questions regarding his/her background check, and will inform Volunteer Programs of final background check results once received.2. The application process ends here for level II candidates. If approved, they will be instructed to contact the school’s Volunteer Coordinator for further guidance.3. Once TB form and background check results are received by Volunteer Programs, the candidate will receive an email notification of status.?If already registered as a Level Two volunteer and interested in becoming a Level One volunteer, please email Mrs. Weber for the appropriate next steps. ................
