Obstacle Course - Use objects you already own like jump ropes, boxes and hula-hoops to create a backyard course. Your kids will be entertained and put their skills to the test. Encourage your children to change up the course with their own ideas.Design a Fairy House - Gather twigs, leaves and flowers and then add a ton of imagination to create a fairy house.Stargazing - Learn about the constellations and print out a few star maps. One night you can spread out a blanket and look for these recognizable groups of stars.Nature Walk - Go for a walk and collect items from Mother Nature. Back at home make a collage out of the found items.Rock Art - Collect rocks and paint them for use as garden decoration, paperweights or pet rocks.Totem Poles - Make totem poles out of paper towel rolls. On your porch or patio, spread out an old cloth as base camp to construct and paint this art project. (Do not waste the paper towel or toilet paper).Map It Out - Show your kids a few examples of maps. Have them think about their neighborhood to create their very own map. Once drawn, take a walk or drive to see if you can follow along.Neighborhood Scavenger Hunt - This fun game combines a neighborhood walk with a scavenger hunt. Before you leave home, write down 10 to 15 things to look for during the neighborhood walk, such as street signs, garden fixtures, different trees, birds and animals. The first person to find every item is the winner.Plan a Treasure Hunt - With a little advanced planning, send your kids on a treasure hunt. Start with a homemade map you’ve stained with coffee and scorched the edges. Have some prizes at the end of their adventure.Take a Heads or Tails Road Trip - Every time you get to an intersection, flip a coin to see if you’re going right (heads) or left (tails).Relax and Read- Find a shady tree, sit under it and read your favorite book.Mud Pies - Let the kids get messy while having a ton of fun. Add water and mud into buckets then flip over to create mud pies. Decorate with twigs, leaves and flowers.Creative Art- Take a sheet of paper and only a sheet of paper. Go outside. Your goal is to make an art masterpiece. The rules are be creative, no writing utensils, and no water.Bird Watching- Go outside and see if you can find a birds nest. Remember not to touch it, so that their eggs stay safe. What color is the bird? How big is she?Simon Says- Play a game Simon says.Makerspace- rummage through the recycling (with mom and dads help) find some things you can create a magnificent invention with. Paper AirPlane Races- craft your best paper airplane. See whose can fly the furthest. Build a Fort- blankets, chairs, etc…Dance Party- Loud Music, pajamas, space to jam.Make Over- Give each other makeovers. Would you rather- come up with a list of questions together. Or ask them back and forth. Open Mic/ Talent show- Kids come up with your best talent show worth act. Sit down as a family and watch each other shine.Make a Sensory BinFill a bin with rice and other treasures, plus a few toys, and you have yourself an instant hit with the little ones. Kids can scoop and pour the rice or dig through to find the prizes you've hidden (in this example, they had fake bugs, a magnifying glass, and tweezers to "collect" them). Just be warned that you'll probably have to vacuum after.Make your own Instruments- and parade through the house.EyeSpy- Mix it up, use colors, letter sounds, senses, etc.Twenty Questions, red light green light, leapfrog, etc.Group Story- have one person start with the first sentence, then the next person says the second sentence, etc….Group Draw- similar to the group stories, except each person draws a line.Do a Science Experiment- Ask mom and dad first! ................
