I sold my first small collection of one-off pieces to online shop and am now currently selling through ASOS Marketplace.I am solely responsible for the whole production process, from the initial ideas, research and designs, pattern cutting and sampling, right through to manufacturing, technical drawings and costing reports.-Made-to-measure garments for Private Clients: Design and production of one-off made-to-measure garments designed specifically for each client. To date these have included wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses and one-off occasion garments.During this process I will meet with clients initially for a design consultation and to take measurements. After this I will design, draft patterns, construct toiles and source fabrics and embellishments. From this point on, the process will include numerous fittings, adjustments, design development and re-toiling to ensure perfect fit before constructing the final garment.In addition to my own hands-on work; researching, designing, pattern cutting and constructing garments, I organize and direct a small team – one pattern cutter and between one and three interns, to aid in the development of each piece.JADE KANG: March 2009 – March 2010 – Assistant Designer and Studio ManagerDuring my time at Jade Kang, I have worked directly with the Creative Director on the design and development of the Spring/Summer 2010 collection. My responsibilities included:Research and creation of mood boards and fabric sourcing. Collaboratively designing the collection with the Creative Director and then overseeing the complete process; being responsible for design developments, time management and the meeting of deadlines.Interviewing and hiring interns as well as sourcing manufacturers, print designers and companies for fabrics, embellishment, fabric printing, and printing of invitations.Running the studio on a day-to-day basis and directing a team of twelve pattern cutters, machinists and interns.Pattern cutting, sewing toiles and constructing final anizing fittings and directing pattern cutters and interns on adjustments and developments.Meeting with the PR Company, stylist and hair and make-up teams to discuss and make decisions about the final look of the show.Writing press releases and detailed garment descriptions.Directing and styling of the collection anizing backstage on the day of the show and managing all interns, dressers and stylists. Technical Drawings and Spec Sheets as well as calculating fabric allocations and final costings for each garment.‘The National Youth Ballet’: January 2008 – March 2008 - CostumierDuring this time I was part of the costume design sector for the National Youth Ballet, working with Costume Designer Keith Bisch on the creation of outfits for nationwide performances of ‘Gisele’. I was in charge of eight costumes for the hunting scene, my job being to create garments from drawings. Therefore my main tasks were:Pattern cutting.Attending fittings and making adjustments based on this.Grading patterns to fit each dancer’s exact measurements.Sewing toiles and final garments for the costumes. The Cuban, Camden: January 2006 – Present: - Floor Supervisor and WaitressDuring my degree and throughout my intense work as an intern in the fashion industry, I have also been constantly working in the service industry, first as a Waitress, until being promoted to Floor Supervisor and Duty Manager. I currently work in ‘The Cuban’ in Camden; a cocktail bar and restaurant. The main part of my job as a waitress is direct customer service – greeting and seating customers, taking orders, ensuring all food and drink is delivered on time and to a high standard and settling bills. Further to this, as Floor Supervisor I lead a small team of waitresses and am responsible for overseeing all dinner bookings. My responsibilities are:Organising table plans for all bookings.Setting up of the restaurant and decorating for private functions and special occasions. Training of new waitresses and acting as a support for other staff.Monitoring all tables; constantly being available to help waitresses and to resolve any problems that may municating with chefs and other managers through a radio system. Cashing up tills and calculating takings for each day.The River Bar in Maidstone, Kent: June 2005 – September 2006 - Member of Bar Staff.Taylor Nelson Sofres in Maidstone, Kent: September 2003 – September 2004- Call Operator.Brookside Nursery, East Peckham, Kent: Sept 2000 – Sept 2003 – Sales Assistant.Work Experience:Alexander McQueen – Womenswear Design Studio: June 2008 – March 2009: Intern/Design AssistantDuring my time at Alexander McQueen, I worked directly with Head Designer; Sarah Burton, Senior Designer; Caroline Tixier and Assistant Designer; Malin Troll, in the creation of three womenswear collections – two main collections (Spring/Summer 09 and Autumn Winter 09/10) and one pre-collection. My responsibilities included.- Directly assisting the Senior Designer with technical drawings and collection recaps. - Assisting during fittings with the organisation of outfits, styling pieces and filing of fitting pictures. - Acting as a leader for interns in the absence of senior designers, and becoming a liaison between the two. - Research and creation of mood boards and fabric boards. - Experimentation on fabrics and materials following the inspiration and techniques. - Sewing and making toiles for fittings, helping pattern cutting and technicians on the conception of each collection, as well as Show Pieces. - Working in Paris each season for the womenswear show; working directly on show pieces, adjustments and embellishments, and assisting designers backstage in organisation of looks, styling and dressing models..Jonathan Saunders: January 2006 - March 2006 & July - September 2006 - InternDuring this placement I worked directly with Jonathan Saunders and Studio Manager, Lucy Smith on the Autumn/Winter 06/07 and Spring/Summer 07 womenswear collections. My Responsibilities included:- Pattern cutting.- Fabric cutting for collection garments.- Sewing toiles for fittings, sewing and adjusting garments for the womenswear collection.- Assisting designers in the organisation of the womenswear show and dressing models backstage.After completing my placement, I was asked to return to Jonathan Saunders during the next season. This allowed me to further my skills in pattern cutting and sewing and also gave me the opportunity to experience the different stages involved in the creation of a collection.Fashion East – Marios Schwab: September 2005 – Dresser at his London Fashion Week show.Graduate Fashion Week: May 2005 - Assistant to graduating designer (Sana Udden) from Middlesex University and dresser at the Graduate fashion week show. My main responsibilities during this month were; Working closely with the designer on the construction and finishings of six outfits.Assisting during fittings, taking notes on all changes and adjustments and possible styling ideas.Constantly monitoring progress and organising time plans to ensure deadlines were met.Assisting in the styling of each outfit for the show.Erotica – Lovebomb: 2004 – Assisting in the set up and styling of a fashion showroom within the Erotica exhibition.‘Fingertips’: June 2002 at Meridian Studios, Kent. Working with the creative producers of ‘FingerTips’ – an art programme for children. My job was to design and make prototype models for use on television.‘The Response Group’ – Graphic Design: July 2001 - Assistant to the head graphic designer. Responsibilities included helping to design company logos and applying graphics to vehicles.Voluntary Work:Between the ages of five and fifteen I attended The Girls’ Brigade. After this age and until I was eighteen I became a leader, helping to look after a group of approximately twenty girls aged between five and nine. During this time I was responsible for creating games and arts and crafts lessons and leading the girls through these exercises for one evening each week.
