Junior Activities 2017-2018 Program Action Plan Department of WyomingSunny Hobbs, Department Chair HYPERLINK "mailto:Sunnyc2hobbs@" Sunnyc2hobbs@307.922.2712 (Cell)The Junior Activities program inspires active participation in members age 17 and under so that they will become engaging, productive members who will want to continue their American Legions Auxiliary membership into adulthood.Creating an active Junior program in our state is something we can do, should do, and can all have a hand in. As members, Units, Districts, and a Department I would love to see usmentoring Junior members!!!!! Unit officers and chairmen can take a Junior member under her wing for a month, a quarter, a year. Teach her about your role (and hopefully one day her role) in our organization!bringing our Juniors to meetings. Get permission from your Unit president to let the girls lead the pledge. Allow them to page or distribute handouts. Allow them to be inquisitive children, allow them to learn, and allow them to enjoy the experience.offering spaces and opportunities to showcase art work or projects they have worked on in a way that the entire Unit (or Post home) can enjoy them. supporting the Juniors, even if your Unit does not have any. These girls are the future of our organization, whether they come from your town or not. Interest in the Patch Program has waned lately in the state. I would love to see this turn around. It is an amazing program that does not require a full, active Junior unit. Individual Junior members can participate just as easily, and have just as much success. I would love to be able to hand out patches at this year’s Department Convention to all the girls that earn them. The Patch Program is open to girls from kindergarten to 12th grade (or 18 years old). PLEASE let me know if you even think you may be interested in pursuing this program with your girls so I can do my best to talk you into it!!!Nationals has opened parts of the Junior Activities program up to young Sons of the American Legion (SAL) members. I am still waiting to hear how Nationals wants in incorporate the SAL members into the Patch Program, but they are now welcome to participate in any Junior meeting or activity as you see fit. I would love for Wyoming to be on the leading edge of this new initiative. I think we are very uniquely suited to this, as we tend to have smaller, more family oriented Posts. I encourage all of you to ask a senior SAL member to host an activity for the kids too-we really have an opportunity to open some doors here if we can figure out the recipe. The Wyoming Juniors Facebook page is up and active. All Unit chairmen and Junior members can request to join. Please join up!!! Weekly posts of activities and crafts can be taken back to your home Units, or girls can participate individually. I will make sure that any Junior news is also posted on this page so we can have a central hub for all the girls (both in state and out). The page name isALA Junior Activities, Department of Wyoming.ReportsMid-Year Reports are due to me by 15 December 2017.
