[Pages:3]God's Promise Cloud
Materials
? sun and cloud patterns (pp. 33?34) ? crepe-paper streamers in 6 rainbow colors (red, orange,
yellow, green, blue, and purple) ? yarn ? light blue crayons ? yellow copy paper ? 11" x 17" white copy paper (or butcher paper) ? scissors ? ruler ? glue ? hole punch ? paper towels ? stapler, staples
Before Class
Copy the sun pattern onto yellow copy paper and cut out one sun for each child. Set a printer to enlarge the cloud pattern to approximately 175 percent, and print copies on 11" x 17" white paper. Cut out two clouds for each child. (Or draw large identical cloud patterns on butcher paper and cut out.) Cut crepe-paper streamers into 18" lengths, one length of each color for each child. Cut yarn into 16" lengths, one length for each child.
Instructions for Children
? Lay two paper clouds back to back so the shapes match. Then color the front of each cloud with a light blue crayon.
? Lay one cloud with the colored side down onto the work surface. Put a drop of glue on one end of each crepe-paper streamer and attach the streamers across the bottom of the cloud in rainbow order: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple (sketch a).
? Lay the second cloud, colored side up, on top of the cloud with the streamers. Make sure the edges are even. With a teacher's help, staple the clouds together around the edges, leaving a 6" opening near one end (sketch b).
? Scrunch two or three paper towels, and gently stuff them into the opening. Then staple the opening closed.
? Glue the paper sun onto the top corner of the cloud. Then punch two holes near the top of the cloud, about 4" apart. Thread yarn through the holes, and tie a knot at the ends for hanging (sketch c).
Talk About
Hang your cloud near an open window to see the streamers flutter in the breeze. When have you seen a real rainbow? Allow the children to share. God puts rainbows in the sky to remind us that He loves us and will never send another flood to cover the entire earth.
