4-H Summer Fun is an educational program of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Edgecombe County 4-H Program. The program will run throughout the summer with educational and fun opportunities for all youth ages 6-18. Activities are open to ages specific to the age appropriateness of the activities. NOTE: Youth must be 6 to 18 years of age as of January 1, 2015 and you DO NOT have to be in 4-H to participate.

EARLY REGISTRATION: 4-H Club members have the opportunity to register on Tuesday, April 21st 8am –5pm at the 4-H office, and the public is invited to register on Wednesday, April 22nd 8am-5pm. At time of registration you will need to complete the 4-H summer registration form, 4-H medical release form, 4-H enrollment form and the 4-H code of conduct form. Please bring all required health insurance information and check made payable to : Edgecombe County 4-H. There will be a Notary on site to notarize the forms. We will need forms from each participant. Registration will be on first-come, first-serve basis, with payment of activities and programs.

Note: There must be a minimum of 5 particpants for each class in order to hold the event. A refund will be given if the event does not occur.

[pic]4-H Summer Camp

Date: June 14th – 19th Location: Eastern 4-H Center on Bulls Bay

Experience camp life and all the fun activities involved with summer camp such as smores, hiking, swimming, canoeing, high and low ropes course, archery, crafts and most of all making new friends.

4-H Bio-tech Camp

Date: July 7th – 9th Location: Wesleyan College, Rocky Mount

Cost: $75.00 Which covers all expenses: Food, Lodging and Activity Fees.

Looking “6” rising 6th – 8th graders to attend 4-H Bio=tech Camp! Come and be the detective who solves the murder mystery as you discover the “science” knowledge that it takes to solve the case.

You will lodge on the campus of Wesleyan College, meet others from the Northeast 4-H District and most importantly enhance your knowledge of science and how it makes the “real world” work.

Cost: $5.00 Ages: 5-18

Join in the fun by raising your own chickens. You will be given three chicks to raise throughout the summer and early fall. Make sure you practice up on your showmanship skill as we will host a chicken show in October during National 4-H week. You will bring your favorite chicken to the show.

Cost: $25.00 Ages: 5-18

Have you ever wanted to hold a rabbit? Well here is your chance. Enjoy raising a rabbit throughout the summer and early fall and during National 4-H Week in October you will get the chance to show your rabbit and share with others what you have learned.

Location: Edgecombe 4-H Office Cost: $10.00 Age: 6 – 8

Come and learn what it takes to fix up a wonderful meal. You will learn kitchen safety, food safety, and most of all how to prepare a delicious meal that you will sample and have for lunch. You will also get take home recipe cards.

Date: Tuesday, June 16th Time: 1:00pm-4:00pm Camp Limit: 12

Location: Edgecombe 4-H Office Cost: $10.00 Age: 6 – 8

Learn to make delicious summer time smoothies. This is a class that will allow you to “Chill Out”! We will experiment with all flavors and varieties. Come thirsty for some KOOL fun!

[pic] Tobacco Farm Life Museum

Date: Wednesday, June 17th Time: 8:00am – 3:30pm

Location: Meet at Edgecombe 4-H Office at 8:00am

Cost: $15.00 plus lunch money or bring a bag lunch. Ages: 9 -15 Camp Limit: 10

Step back into time as we tour the Tobacco Farm Life Museum. You will get to experience what life was like on the farm of yesteryear. You will make butter and candles. After the tour we will eat lunch at a local fast food restaurant and have a special treat before we head home.

Date: Thursday, June 18th Time: 8:00am – 4:00pm

Location: Meet at Edgecombe 4-H Office at 8:00am

Cost: $15.00 Ages: 9 -14 Camp Limit: 10

Bring a bagged lunch

We will travel to Johnston County where we will get to tour the Lazy O Farm. The tour will stop at the barn yard so you can see all the animals up close and personal. Then we will get to mine for some “gold” and other goodies. We will have a picnic lunch on the farm so make sure you bring a bagged lunch. After lunch you will get to experience the wonderful playground which features a soil tunnel so you can see what is living under your feet.

Pillow Talk

Date: Friday, June 19th Time: 9:00am – 3:00pm

Location: Edgecombe 4-H Office Cost: $20.00 Age: 9 & Up

Bring 5 Standard Size Pillow Cases of your choice.

Summer is a time for relaxing. Come to the “Pillow Talk” class to learn how to make your very own lounge pillow. Youth will learn basic sewing techniques. Class will begin with an introduction to sewing. You must bring 5 standard size pillow cases of your choice.

Date: Tuesday, June 23rd Time: 8:30am – 4:00pm

Location: Meet at Edgecombe 4-H office and travel to Aurora

Cost: $10 + spending money for gift shop. Ages: 9 & Up

Camp Limit: 10

Bring a bagged lunch!

Experience the dig of a lifetime. We will travel to the Aurora Fossil Museum where you will get to try your hand at digging for fossils. You will explore the museum and hear all about how sharks once ruled the ground you are walking on. Once we have finished digging for sharks teeth you will have a picnic lunch. After lunch we will take a ride on the ferry.

NC ZOO

Date: Wednesday, June 24th

Time: 7:30am – 5:30pm

Location: Meet at Edgecombe 4-H office and travel to Asheboro

Cost: $20 + lunch and spending money

Ages: 9 & Up Camp Limit: 10

Do you belong in the zoo? This is your chance to find out. We will travel to Asheboro, NC to visit the NC Zoo. The park is home to animals that live in Africa and North America. We will explore the park and learn all about zoology.

Goose Creek State Park Adventure

Date: Friday, June 26th

Time: 8:30am – 4:00pm

Location: Meet at Edgecombe County 4-H office and travel to Washington, NC to Goose Creek State Park

Cost: $10 Ages: 9 & Up Camp Limit: 10

Bring a bagged lunch, sunscreen, bug spray, bathing suit, towel, and water shoes!

Hiking and swimming are just two of the activities you will get to experience while we enjoy the beautiful scenery of Goose Creek State Park. We will hike the trails of the park and learn all about the native plants and animals. We will have a picnic lunch and then off to the beach area of the park for some swimming. Participants must know how to swim. Parents will sign a letter stating their child can swim.

Cupcakes and Highheels

Date: Monday, June 29th

Time: 8:30 am -3:00pm

Location: Meet at Edgecombe 4-H office and travel to Wilson

Cost: $35 & snow cone money Ages: 9 & up Camp Limit: 10

Bring a bagged lunch!

Cupcakes and High heels what more could a girl ask for. Come to this camp to learn how to decorate cupcakes from a professional baker. “Ms. Dindy” will teach you how to make high heel cupcakes and dress cupcakes. You will also learn how to make cake pops shaped like a dress. Guys you can come too as she has cupcakes for the boys also. You will get to make monster cupcakes and cake pops. After our decorating lesson we will head to the coolest place in town and have a snow cone so make sure you bring your snow cone money.

Cloverbud Science Camp

Date: Tuesday, June 30th

Time: 9:00am – 12:00pm

Location: Edgecombe County 4-H Office

Cost: $12 Ages: 6-8 Camp Limit: 15

Calling all cloverbud scientist! This is one camp you do not want to miss. The birds will even fly in for this camp. You will have the opportunity to work on some fun science experiments and then we will have some special visitors fly- in, I mean drop by to see us.

Date: Tuesday, June 30th Time: 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Location: Edgecombe County 4-H Office

Cost: $10 Ages: 6 - 8 Camp Limit: 12

It’s a party for cloverbuds! Come learn to decorate cupcakes like the professionals. You will decorate cupcakes like puppies, pigs, frogs, butterflies, monkeys and so much more. Each participant will decorate one dozen cupcakes to take home and share with their family.

Date: Wednesday, July 1st Time: 9:00am – 12:00pm

Location: Edgecombe County 4-H Office

Cost: $10 Ages: 6-8 Camp Limit: 12

This camp will allow you to get prepared for the July 4th holiday. You will make several red, white, and blue crafts and you will get to fix some 4th of July desserts.

Date: Wednesday, July 1st Time: 1:00m – 4:00pm

Location: Edgecombe County 4-H Office

Cost: $10 Ages: 9 & up Camp Limit: 12

Are you ready for the 4th of July celebration? This camp will make sure that you have what you need to have an awesome July 4th. We will make crafts and prepare some delicious red, white, and blue food. You will sample your food and have recipes to take home to share with your family for the holiday.

Date: Thursday, July 2nd Time: 8:00am – 3:00pm

Location: Meet at Edgecombe County 4-H Office

Cost: $10 and lunch money Ages: 9 -14 Camp Limit: 10

We will travel to Raleigh to the Museum of Natural Sciences. We will tour the museum and see the Smithsonian Dig It exhibit. This exhibit is all about soil science. After touring the science museum we will tour the NC Museum of History and then we will visit the Executive Mansion. You will get to see where the governor of North Carolina lives.

Culinary Academy

Date: Tuesday, July 7th Time: 9:00am -12:00pm

Location: Edgecombe County 4-H Office

Cost: $10 Ages: 9 & Up Camp Limit: 12

Are you interested in culinary arts? Maybe you just want to learn how to prepare a meal for your family. This is the class for you! You will prepare an entire meal from start to finish. You will learn kitchen safety, food safety, how to read a recipe and how to properly measure ingredients. You will sample the food you prepare and each participant will take home recipes.

Baking 101

Date: Tuesday, July 7th Time: 1:00pm- 4:00pm

Location: Edgecombe County 4-H Office

Cost: $10 Ages: 9 & Up Camp Limit: 12

Do you love desserts? If so, you will not want to miss this camp. You will learn to make several desserts that everyone loves and never gets tired of tasting. You will also learn to make some modern and glamorous desserts that are fit for a king. You will take home a booklet of dessert recipes that you can prepare for your family.

Aquarium & Island Ferry Adventure

Date: Wednesday, July 8th

Time: 7:30am – 7:00pm

Location: Meet at Edgecombe County 4-H Office and travel to Pine Knoll Shores

Cost: $30.00 plus dinner money and spending money

Ages: 9 – 18 Camp Limit: 10

Supplies: Bagged lunch, sunscreen, bug spray, towel, bathing suit, water shoes

This camp is all about marine biology. We will start out by visiting the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores where you can see sting rays, sharks, octopus, and sea turtles. After a picnic lunch we will travel to Beaufort, NC where we will board a ferry and travel to Carrot Island and Bird Shoals. We will explore both islands learning about the mudflats, uplands and salt marshes where over 200 species of birds, 52 species of fish, 47 species of invertebrates, and more than 40 horses call home. You will also get to look for sand dollars and go swimming. We will finish our outing by stopping for dinner at the Sanitary Restaurant in Morehead City.

Community Service Day

Date: Thursday, July 9th

Time: 9:00am – 3:00pm

Location: Edgecombe County 4-H Office

Cost: $15 (lunch will be provided) Ages: 9 & Up Camp Limit: 12

Come and learn what it means to give back to your community. This camp is all about how you can brighten someone else’s day. We will make tutu’s for the James and Connie Maynard’s Children’s Hospital - Vidant in Greenville, NC. We will also make surgical caps for the children and no sew throw blankets for boys. These items will be taken to the hospital where they will be given out to the children who will be facing upcoming surgeries. This is a camp that you definitely don’t want to miss.

Flower Pot Fun & More Crafts

Date: Friday, July 10th Time: 9am – 3pm

Location: Edgecombe County 4-H Office

Cost: $20.00 (Includes lunch)

Ages: 9 - 18 Camp Limit: 12

Come and see all the amazing crafts you can make out of flower pots. This camp will allow your creativity to come alive. You will make a tipsy topsy flower pot, a patio light flower pot and other surprise crafts. This camp will allow you to start your holiday shopping in July. Bring your creativity and let’s enjoy a fun day of crafting.

Girls Day Out

Date: Tuesday, July 14th Time: 9am -3pm

Location: Meet at Edgecombe 4-H Office and travel to Raleigh

Cost: $10.00 plus lunch and spending money

Ages: 9 -18 Camp Limit: 10

Every girl needs a day to herself. This camp will give you that day. We will start at the Edgecombe 4-H Office where we will discuss how to be a savvy shopper. We will look at the latest fall fashions and then we will head to Raleigh for a fun filled girls day of shopping.

Date: Wednesday, July 15th Time: 9am -3pm

Location: Meet at Edgecombe 4-H Office and Travel to Frankies Fun Park in Raleigh

Cost: $20.00 plus lunch money and additional fun money

Ages: 9 -18 Camp Limit: 10

Guys this camp is just for you! We will travel to Frankies Fun Park in Raleigh to have a fun filled day of excitement. We will cruise around the road course, drive the bumper boats, and play a round of mini golf. The rest is up to you. We will have lunch at the park and enjoy a fun day with our 4-H friends.

Cookie Science

Date: Thursday, July 16th Time: 9am -3pm

Location: Meet at Edgecombe 4-H Office and Travel to Rocky Mount

Cost: $10.00 plus lunch and spending money

Ages: 9 – 18 Camp Limit: 10

Are you a cookie monster? Do you love cookies? Well this is the camp for you! We will begin our day by exploring the Rocky Mount Childrens’ Science Museum and learning all about science. Then we will travel to the mall to have lunch. After lunch we will learn to decorate cookies with the help of the Great American Cookie Company.

Date: Tuesday, July 21st – Friday, July 24th Time: 9:00am – 3:00pm

Location: Edgecombe County 4-H Office

Cost: $100 Ages: 6 – 8 Camp Limit: 15

Campers will need to bring lunch each day and snacks. Friday campers will not need lunch. Campers will also need to bring 10 -15 pictures of them and their family for the “All About Me” Scrapbook. They will need these photos on the first day of camp.

Have you thought it would be fun to go to camp? This is your chance. Cloverbuds will experience camp life to its fullest. Cloverbuds will learn all about themselves as they put together an “All About Me” scrapbook. They will learn about Rocket Science as they build some edible rockets and some rockets to shoot. They will discover what it was like to live in the age of the dinosaurs. You better watch out we might have one lurking around. Cloverbuds will learn all about gardening while making some gardening crafts and while discovering the importance of bugs and butterflies. You will also make your own worm bin. We will end the week by stepping into the kitchen and learning what it means to eat healthy. You will get to prepare a meal that you will eat at lunch. To wind down the end of a long week we will relax with the 4-H Dinner Theatre as we enjoy popcorn and ice cream while watching a movie.

Date: Tuesday, July 28th Time: 9am – 3pm

Location: Edgecombe County 4-H Office

Cost: $10.00 Ages: 9 – 18 Camp Limit: 12

How would you like to be on a cooking show? This is your chance! The 4-H Food Challenge is a fun way to see how well you know your way around the kitchen and different foods. This camp will teach you team building and how to prepare food. Participants will be divided into three groups of 4. Each group will be given a bag of groceries and cooking supplies. The groups will be challenged to prepare a meal with the ingredients they are provided. There will be a panel of judges who will be watching for technique, food safety issues, and ultimately taste. Each group will fix a main course and a dessert.

Location: : East Carolina Agriculture & Education Center

Livestock Arena-1175 Kingsboro Rd. Rocky Mount, NC

Cost: $5.00 includes lunch

Ages: 6 and up

Supplies: All participants must complete a release and consent form. Register through Edgecombe 4-H Office.

A fun-filled day of learning for children K-5th grade. Topics for demonstration and discussion may include: ATV Safety, Tractor/PTO Safety, Fire Safety, First Aid, Healthy Lifestyles, Chemical Safety, Animal Safety, Hidden Hazards, Electrical Safety, and Sun Safety. This safety day includes lunch, take home goody bag and, a t-shirt for participants.

Date: Thursday, July 30th Time: 8:30am – 4:00pm

Location: Meet at Edgecombe County 4-H Office and travel to Kinston Water Park.

Cost: $15.00 Ages: 9 -18 Camp Limit: 10

Let’s cool off from the summer heat at the water park. We will meet at the Edgecombe 4-H office and travel to Kinston for some water park fun. We will have lunch at the park. You will need to bring bathing suit, towels, sunscreen, and spending money. Participants must know how to swim.

Date: Friday, July 31st Time: 9:00am – 4:00pm

Location: Meet at Edgecombe County 4-H Office and travel to Rocky Mount

Cost: $15.00 Ages: 9 -18 Camp Limit: 10

Let’s strike up some fun! We will learn all about the proper way to bowl and enjoy two games of bowling with our 4-H friends. After bowling we will have lunch at Pizza Inn and then catch a movie to end our day. Please bring lunch money and money for snacks at the movies.
