Agreement to List Cats & Dogs for Adoption

Silver Rescue will list animals on our adoption website for individuals who need help placing rescued animals or their own pets for which they can no longer care. The internet is a powerful tool for advertising your animal’s availability, and many successful adoptions are accomplished this way.

- When we list an animal, we are assuming responsibility for accepting applications, rigorously screening for safety and suitability, conducting background and reference checks, making home visits, and consummating the adoption. We work as hard for your animal as we do for our own to find a safe, loving, forever home.

- When we courtesy-list an animal, we are simply providing internet exposure for your animal. We assume no other responsibility except to forward names of interested parties who contact us and to remove the animal from the site once it is placed.

Please read the following requirements carefully. They are designed to protect Silver Rescue and your animal. Because of our 501(c)3 status, all adoptions must be documented and accounted for.

1. Read and initial each item where indicated to signify agreement.

2. Provide the information requested pages 2 and 3.

3. Return this document as an email attachment to SilverRescue@, or snail mail it to the address at the bottom of page 4.

|__________ Fostering |While your animal is listed by Silver Rescue (SR), it must remain in your care or that of another trustworthy |

| |person (chosen by you or by SR) who is available to work with us through the adoption process. A stable |

| |environment is best both for the animal and for facilitating contact as the process progresses. |

| | |

| |SR can help with advice and direction regarding management of behavior/training issues if needed. |

| | |

| |We do not promise a quick adoption. Please do not complete this form if you have waited until the last minute |

| |before moving, arrival of a new baby, etc. before listing your pet with us. |

| | |

| |You will spend money, time, and effort to safely place your animal. We commit to doing all in our power to |

| |effect a safe, permanent placement as soon as possible. |

|__________No “free” placements |While your animal is listed by SR, you may not give it away “free to a good home”. |

| | |

| |Free adoptions are potentially very dangerous. Free or cheaply adopted animals are neglected or abandoned or may|

| |be sold to medical testing facilities where they suffer terribly for the rest of their lives. |

| | |

| |If your pet is a Pit Bull dog, you must be aware that they are the single most-abused of all dog breeds. A free|

| |adoption can result in your dog’s being used to train other dogs to fight. “Bait” dogs are thrown into pits |

| |with their legs bound and mouths taped shut to be torn apart alive. Pit Bulls may also be tortured to death as |

| |part of gang initiation rites. These horrors are not exaggerations but are documented facts! |

| | |

| |All dogs (but mostly small to medium) and cats can be and are used as bait animals. |

| | |

|__________ Adoption fees |Individuals who cannot afford an adoption fee cannot afford to support a pet responsibly! Those who want a free|

| |or cheap pet will value it only as much as they paid for it. |

| | |

| |Animals obtained “free” from a craigslist posting or Wal-Mart parking lot require vet care in excess of the |

| |amount of an adoption fee, so they are no bargain – unless the new owner foregoes proper care. Our fees are |

| |established to discourage irresponsible adoptions and to partially reimburse SR for the expense of placing |

| |animals in safe, permanent homes. |

| | |

| |SR maintains sole discretion in determining the amount of the adoption fee for your animal. On occasion, in the|

| |interest of the animal, we may waive or reduce a fee, but only after an applicant has passed all of our |

| |screening procedures |

| | |

| |Adoption fees are remitted directly to SR. Should you arrange to collect the adoption fee, you must forward it |

| |to SR immediately unless otherwise agreed in writing. |

| | |

| |SR retains the entire adoption fee/donation to cover expenses incurred for your animal’s adoption. Excess monies|

| |are used to help other animals in need. |

| | |

|__________ Vet care |SR offers for adoption only healthy animals or those whose medical or physical condition will not prevent a |

| |permanent adoption. You must present documentation of vet care before your animal is listed on our adoption |

| |site. |

| | |

| |All animals must be spayed or neutered, have proof of current rabies vaccination and be maintained on monthly |

| |flea prevention. We can recommend low cost options for spaying/neutering. In addition: |

| | |

| |Dogs must have current parvo/distemper/leptovirus and bordatella vaccines, a negative heartworm test and be |

| |maintained on monthly heartworm prevention. |

| | |

| |Cats must have negative testing for feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and |

| |current vaccination for FeLV. |

| | |

| |Puppies and kittens that have not been spayed/neutered must wait for adoption until they are approximately 3 |

| |months of age and can safely undergo surgery. However, if we are confident the adopter will spay/neuter the |

| |animal when it reaches an appropriate age, SR may at its sole discretion offer a partial refund of the adoption |

| |fee once documentation of surgery is presented. Animals not spayed/neutered within the time agreed upon in the |

| |adoption contract must be returned to SR for rehoming. |

| |. |

| |Intact highly desired breeds are frequently used for breeding, or in the case of Pit Bulls, for fighting. These|

| |dogs will not be placed before spaying/neutering. |

| | |

| |Vet care required while the animal remains with you or the designated foster is your responsibility until an |

| |adoption is finalized. |

| | |

|__________ Application/contract |We welcome your help in referring qualified applicants to SR; however, ALL applicants regardless of the source |

| |must undergo our standard adoption process: written application, proof of identification, vet and personal |

| |reference check. |

| | |

| |You may withdraw your animal from listing by SR at any time. Please let us know in writing by email to |

| |silverrescue@. This agreement remains in force until you notify us in writing that you no longer want |

| |us to place your animal. |

| | |

|__________ Exclusive listing |Listing your animal at the same time with more than one rescue group results in confusion and wasted time and |

| |work on everyone’s part. Please respect the time and effort we expend to place your animal by keeping us |

| |informed about your plans. |

| | |

| |If you intend to list with other groups, please tell us so we can “courtesy list” only. We will place the animal|

| |on our site but you or the other group(s) is responsible for all other placement activities. |

| | |

|__________ Return of animal |Our adoption contract specifies that an animal must be returned to SR if the adoption contract does not work out|

| |for any reason. This prevents an animal that was originally abused or abandoned from being placed again in a |

| |dangerous or life-threatening situation. Our screening process ensures a near 100% success rate, but |

| |occasionally an animal will return. |

| | |

| |By accepting SR’s help in placing your animal, you promise to re-assume responsibility for your animal and to |

| |take it back into your care should it be returned for any reason. With your renewed agreement, SR will resume |

| |efforts to find your animal another placement. |
