We say, "We can't imagine not doing it!"Position Summary: The Domestic Violence Response Advocate provides immediate crisis response to individuals who have been identified as victims of domestic violence by Portland Police Officers. This position is sited within a precinct of the Portland Police Bureau and will be available to police during afternoon and evening hours to respond on-scene or to connect via phone to survivors immediately following domestic violence incidents. This position is in partnership with the City of Portland, Multnomah County, and Volunteers of America, Oregon. Education, Training & Experience:Degree in human services or related field preferred. Relevant experience may be substituted for education.At least one year advocacy experience in domestic violence and/or sexual assault programs.Knowledge of law enforcement and cross-disciplinary response to domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.Proven skill and ability in crisis intervention, advocacy, ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds.Demonstrated knowledge of domestic and sexual violence dynamics, and familiarity with local resources and petencies:Capacity to work effectively with law enforcement officers as part of a team in a fast-paced, high pressure environment.Able to relate to people from diverse puter literate, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook).Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters, with a strong sense of ethical conduct, sound judgment, and integrity.Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain good working relationships with leadership, staff, supporters, targeted community groups, and the public with a high degree of tact, diplomacy and discretion, with an emphasis on flexibility and professionalism.Excellent organization, time management and documentation skills.Additional Eligibility Requirements:Satisfactory criminal background check.Active driver’s license, current insurance, access to a vehicle, and ability to pass our insurer’s driving standards are required for this position.Ability to work a flexible schedule including extended weekend, evening and holiday hours as needed.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Establish and maintain positive working relationships with Multnomah County, Portland Police Bureau, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney’s office, community groups, social service agencies, and other Domestic Violence Enhanced Response Team (DVERT) partners.Respond to pages or calls from police officers who encounter domestic violence survivors, either in person or via telephone as appropriate based on officer’s assessment of safety at the scene.Conduct safety planning, assessment of immediate needs, and assist survivor with determining next steps after incident to ensure safety.Make referrals and linkages to appropriate community resources, including client assistance funds and motel vouchers.Assess for potential fit with DVERT criterion and facilitate DVERT advocate follow-up.Provide information about crime victim rights, protective orders, prosecution and civil legal options.Offer services that adhere to principles of cultural sensitivity and assist with connection to culturally specific programs.Maintain current records of service provision and provide statistics necessary to support project goal of assessing effectiveness of after-hours crisis response to survivor’s needs.Work with DVERT Coordinator to provide specialized training for community partners.Provide consultation to officers and other DVERT partners to assist with case planning and cross-training.When problem solving, follow Home Free’s Ethical Communication policy.Other Responsibilities: Attend trainings as required.Perform other duties as assigned.Supervisory Responsibility: Position is not responsible for supervision of other employees.Work Environment:Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
