Cover Design & Motto Contest

Cover Design & Motto Contest

Each year interested Delegates are asked to enter a contest to create a cover design and/or a motto. Winning entries are selected during the Girls State session and the artwork is used for the cover of the Inauguration Program as well as next year’s Girls State Program book. For an example, refer to this year’s Girls State Program book. Winning entries will earn points for their City towards the Outstanding City award.

Cover entries must include the following information as part of the design:

• American Legion Auxiliary

• Wyoming Girls State 2017

Motto entries are used for the back cover. If the motto isn’t the Delegate’s creation, then she must recognize the author. Illustrations may be used to highlight the meaning of the motto.

• Each piece of artwork needs to be done on a sheet of white paper measuring 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inches, which is equivalent to half of an 8-1/2 x 11-inch sheet of paper.

• Artwork needs to be done in black, using either an ink pen or pencil. Please do not use charcoal as it smudges. If done in pencil, it must be dark enough to make a clear copy.

• If she uses a flag as part of the design, the Flag Code in the “Flag Etiquette” book must be followed.

• Since there isn’t a lot of free time after the Delegate’s arrival at Girls State, it is recommended that her entry be completed prior to coming.

• Deadline for turning in artwork is on Thursday during the week of Girls State before 8:30 a.m. to the Girls State office. Staff to vote by noon on Thursday.
