Now that she is gone, what should we do?

Digital Exit Slips- go to the button for the blog. Ask students to answer the blog question and write two sentences about what their story will be. Have them respond to a classmate’s post.

Create Poetry-go to the Magnetic Poetry tab, download it for your students. Have them create their own poem based on their response to the book. It works like the refrigerator magnets, but it’s digital.

Create a Vocab Vlog- To begin, download Wonderful Words. Ask students to select three words and create a word map (also for download on the site). Chronicle three words and their meanings in a vlog format.

Interview a family member or classmate: Watch the video which is an interview about the book. Students can create a script and do a video format or written. The theme for the interview is A Life’s Story, so it can be for any age.

Create an eBook-Download the Book Extension tab and save to your computer. Based on students’ abilities, there are graphic organizers under the Filmstrip tabs. (Additional ones available on Google Classroom) Students can use the five extended illustrations in any order to create their own book extending the story or creating an entirely new one.

Character Study Using Animation-This is found only on the Google Classroom Tab. You must have a gmail in order to have access to it. There you will find several options for character studies. Encourage your students to create a spider diagram as the illustrator discussed for a character they are creating or one from the book. This can be done on Google or paper. Go to Vyond to create an animated character study as shown in the presentation.

Summarize the Story Using Song- Tara Scheyer wrote Mr. Solesby’s Shoes Song and demonstrates to students how to summarize a text through song. Have your students read a page and create a new verse for her song.
