Customize Word Header/Footer

Create/Save a Custom Header/Footer

1. Create a custom header or footer in Word. Example, to create this footer:

a. Create a new document in Word. b. Click the Insert tab and then click

Footer. c. Click Blank (Three Columns) from the

drop-down list.

d. Select the rightmost "[Type here]" field and type "Last Revised: ".

e. Select the center "[Type here]".

f. Click Page Number on the Insert tab. g. Point at Current Position, scroll the pop-

out menu and click on Page X of Y, Bold Numbers.

2. Save header or footer in gallery: a. Click Footer (or Header, if saving header) on Insert tab. b. Select Save Section to Footer (or Header) Gallery... c. Type a name for your custom footer (or header) and click OK.

Use Custom Header/Footer

1. Open a new or existing document in Word. 2. Click Footer (or Header) on the Insert tab. 3. Scroll to the bottom of the list and select your custom footer (or header).

Add Header/Footer to Default Template

1. On Word's File tab, click Open. 2. Click Browse and then navigate to

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates, where "username" is your username.

3. Double-click on Normal.dotm. A blank document will open.

4. Add your header and/or footer to the blank document. 5. On the File tab, click Save. The next new (blank) document you open in Word will contain your default header and/or footer.
