Booting from CD, DVD, or USB Media



1 Installing Solaris on a virtualbox:

1. Download virtualbox from here.

Windows:

MAC:

2. Download VirtualBox Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack from here.

All supported platforms:

3. Install virtualbox first. And then install VirtualBox Extension Pack.

4. Download Oracle Solaris VirtualBox Template from here.



A. For 32-bit system. Please download version 10. Version 11 is 64 bit only.

B. You may need to create a free Oracle account to download the files

5. Unzip the Oracle Solaris VirtualBox Template files.

6. Start the virtual box.

7. IFrom File Menu, select Import Appliance

8. Select the OracleSolaris11_1.ova file from the directory in which the OracleSolaris11_1-VM.tgz file was uncompressed in step 5.

9. In the Appliance Import Wizard, change Appliance Import Settings to suit your system (Option).

10. Start system image.

If you get a “Long mode not supported” error message, please check if you system is 64bit. Otherwise please download version 10 in step 4.

11. Press F2 to Configure the system. [pic]

12. Proceed through configuration screens that prompt for hostname, timezone, default user and passwd, and root passwd. Do not choose "oracle" as a default user because it already exists as a user in the system.

13. Apply the configure file.

14. Login the syetem.

Either log in as the default user configured in the previous step or log in as user "oracle", password "oracle". Changing the password for the user "oracle" is recommended.

15. When you log in the system at first time, you may need to select Desktop and Keyboard Preferences.

16. Now your Solaris is ready for use.
