Graph Club: Tutorial by Reba Frank, Rhys Potts, and Dr ...



Graph Club is a software program by ___________. It is a simple graphing software that allows users to insert their own pictures, manipulate graphing tools and graph display. It also uses voice output within the program.

To begin…

1. Install your software. It may ask you to restart your computer afterwards.

2. After restarting, click on the Graph Club Software via the program list or desktop icon.

3. An opening will appear like the one below.

4. Select Lets Graph.

5. Another menu will appear like the one below. Select Create Graphs

6. In this mode you will see three windows-A Picture Graph Window, A Bar Graph Window, and a Recording Window in Vertical Mode.

a. Picture Graph Window

i. The first window allows you to build your graph.

b. Bar Graph:

i. The second window lets you display the same graph you made as a bar graph, picture graph, circle graph, or line graph depending on the selection you make.

c. Recording or Notebook Window: This allows you type and record a message for your students or activity. To Record click on the Microphone button in the Notebook Window.

Once you click on the microphone, you will see this pop up menu.

Click on the Record button. When you want to stop, Click on Stop. You can play back what you have recorded. If you like it, Click on Ok.

7. Changing the arrangement of your graphs.

a. At the top of your screen you will see a menu (File, Edit, Graph, Options, Teacher, Help.)

b. Click on the Options.

c. Explore these options. It will allow you to change the arrangement of your graphs and what to include.

8. Changing the individual Graph Options

a. Click on Graph. You will see a drop down menu like the one below…

b. Explore each option. You can see that you can set your Scale maximum for your graphs, what symbols to use, option of adding more graphs, and How many kinds (columns you are graphing (1 up to …)

9. Manipulating your graphs without using the upper menu…

a. Click on the different parts of the graph. You can change any of the labels to read something else. Simply click on the label and retype it.

b. Pictures

i. To change the pictures click on the + sign beside the picture toolbar on the picture menu. A pop up menu will appear like the one below.

ii. Look at the line beside the Choose Symbols. This shows you what will appear on your graphs

iii. Look at the highlighted 4 in the dark blue section at the very top of the pop up menu. By clicking on the 4 you can add more columns for graphing or decrease it by dragging the highlighted number to the left or to the right.

iv. Color Tabs under the picture

1. This has an option of changing by first clicking on the tab you would like to change in the dark blue section. Then click on the color list at the bottom of the pop up menu.

v. Pictures

1. You can change the pictures two ways. First find the symbol you want included in your graph activity. Click on that symbol and drag it to the dark blue section. You can put it on top of another picture. (Remember, if you need to add space for more symbols, click on the highlighted number and drag it to the left.)

2. You can also add your own pictures into the graph. Click on the Scissors symbol tab.

3. Click on the Add New Symbols button. A Pop up menu will appear like the one below.

Click on the Browse for Files Button. It will take you through your computer (my pictures, etc). Select the picture you would like. Once back to this pop up menu, choose the tab category you would like to add it to. Click on the Add button. Then add your picture to the dark blue area by dragging it on top of another picture.

10. Creating the graph. Go to Picture Symbols at the top. Drag a picture to the correct column. If in the correct column you will hear a bing, and it will say the number (i.e. 1). Note –you will also see the graph on the left change.

11. Changing the graph on the left to another Graph (Picture, Line, Bar, or Circle)

a. Click on the icons at the bottom of the left hand graph (see below)

b. By clicking on the picture icons, you can change the appearance of the graph.

12. Saving your graph

a. Go to File then Exit. It will prompt you to save. If you would like to save, click Save.
