Create Your Own Poem

Now that we have read a few poems, it is time for you to create your own poem. You have learned about many different poetic devices. You will use these elements effectively in the poem you write. Five (or more) different assigned poetic devices must be present in your writing. Your poem should be fifteen to twenty lines long. Indicate in parenthesis at the end of each line that contains a poetic device, which specific type can be found in that line. Use imagery to stimulate pictures in the reader's mind by appealing to the five senses: hearing, smell, taste, sight and touch. Make sure that your poem is wordprocessed, titled and includes your name. Speak your poem aloud to the class.
