Math Websites

1) abcteach

Summary:

Abcteach is a website meant for teachers and is not exclusive to math, but the materials on the site are mainly geared toward the younger child. The website also has pre-made worksheets from varying subjects and degrees of difficulty, such as addition, subtraction, division, geometry, money, and place value. There are also some fun extras like holiday paper with primary lines, signs for classroom stations, and certificates, all of which are printable. The website also offers blank templates to create your own flashcards and worksheets. Abcteach is easy to navigate and all the links work. Even though the appearance is a bit dull, the site is very clear and unobtrusive.

2) Teach R Kids Math

Teach R Kids Math

Summary:

Teach R Kids Math is a website intended for younger students. Most of the tools are geared for K-3rd grade, but they do have an Advanced section with a lot of exercises using multiplication, rounding, decimals, and division. All the tools, including flashcards, worksheets, and games, are interactive. The student can choose the desired content and difficulty level and then can submit their answers to see which questions they answered right and wrong. The content areas include basic counting, place value, number sequences, patterns, word problems, time, fractions, etc. The website is very easy to navigate, has a clean appearance, and is more skill oriented than game oriented. However, since the site is intended more for the younger child, it might be helpful to be navigated with an adult so the teacher/parent/older sibling could choose the difficulty level more accurately.

3) AAA Math

AAA Math

Summary:

AAA Math is meant for students of all ages; the content ranges from very basic addition, multiplication, and fractions to more complicated math like algebra, properties, and statistics. There are extensive amounts of information and games, but perhaps maybe a little too much. However, with each topic level, the student is given explanations and examples of how to do the task, and then on the bottom of the page there is a simple interactive game or exercise. Site navigation is easy, but a younger child might need some help because the user has to navigate through a couple steps to get to games and interactive tools. The website doesn’t bring the user to anywhere inappropriate, but it does have links to other sites about earth sciences and such that might distract the student away from the math, but links are still informative and appropriate. The look of the site is bold with creative uses of primary colors.

4) Harcourt Math Glossary

Summary:

Harcourt Math Glossary is a glossary of math terms categorized by grade level from K-6th grade. Each word comes with a definition and a picture, which sometimes move and make sounds, to demonstrate the meaning of the word. Glossary terms are appropriate for each grade level, or thereabout, and graphics are fun, engaging, and accurately portray the meaning of the term. The site is simple, self-explanatory, and very kid friendly. This would be a great reference tool for every student to have on his or her list of Favorite websites.

Summary:

, intended for students of differing age and skill levels, brings to the user quality interactive tools, such as flashcards, worksheets, games, and even a homework helper. The flashcards and games can be printed for home or classroom use as well. The user can choose subjects like addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, decimals, etc. for each game or activity. Then, the user can select a level of difficulty to for a more personalized exercise. Instructions are clear and all the games work! The student is not hindered by a slow moving site or activity – the games think fast so the student doesn’t have to wait. The site is very easy to navigate, clear and understandable for the user, and does not send the student to unrelated and/or inappropriate places. The look of the site could use some work, but the minimalist approach is not distracting when trying to use the tools. (I personally used this site when preparing for our basic skills test and found it very helpful!)
