6315075-9525Writing for the Common Core: Middle School WorkshopAudra Fleeman (8thELA-Horizons, Lakeside), Christine Stroer (DCES), and Ali Gotz (Former Horizons)We are pleased to offer our fifth year of our summer writing workshop. With the introduction of the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS), we have modified our workshop to focus on responding to text while using evidence to support the writing. While our workshop is designed to expose your child to a variety of writing strategies and formats, the main focus of the Middle School Workshop is to prepare students to:determine when and how to cite textual evidence to support analysis and inferences, andeffectively communicate ideas in writing applying grade-appropriate vocabulary while demonstrating a command of the conventions of grammar. As part of the workshop, students will receive a resource that will prove useful throughout their coming years of middle school. More important, perhaps, is that shortly after camp, your child will put in practice the skills and tools learned while feeling more confident in his or her writing knowledge and ability! Middle School Workshop Schedule* 8 students per session *Camp will be held at 3615 Valley Crest Way (Three Chimneys), Cumming, GA 30041. July 22 – 26, 2013Session ISession IISession Fee is $175.009:00-10:30 a.m.11:00-12:30 p.m.There must be a minimum of six students per session for the session to remain on the schedule. We will contact parents should the need arise.In order to reserve your child in one of the workshop sessions, a minimum of $25.00 is required. *Students who enroll and pay for their session in full prior to June 1 will receive a $25.00 discount, for a total cost of $150.00. Due to the limit of our class size, should cancellation become necessary, a two-week notice is required in order to receive a refund.
