| |In the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office, we have had a couple instances where someone registering a corporation has used a stolen credit card. The businesses are|
| |usually dealing with the shipping industry and can have connects (satellite offices) in Europe. |
| | |
| |Have any other states encountered this issue? |
|Manitoba | |
|Corporations Canada | |
|Alabama | |
|Alaska | |
|Arizona |We have also had a couple of instances of this, which we found out about due to a chargeback from the bank. We have no investigator, so I don’t have any other details. |
|Arkansas | |
|California | |
|Colorado | |
|Connecticut | |
|Delaware | |
|District of Columbia |In DC we have not experienced those issues. |
|Florida | |
|Georgia | |
|Hawaii | |
|Idaho | |
|Illinois | |
|Indiana |Not yet aware of this issue in Indiana. |
|Iowa | |
|Kansas | |
|Kentucky | |
|Louisiana |Not in Louisiana as far as I know. |
|Maine | |
|Maryland | |
|Massachusetts |I am not aware of any issue with the use of stolen credit cards. |
|Michigan | |
|Minnesota |While it is uncertain whether the credit cards in question were stolen, Minnesota has encountered some filings where the payment order on a credit card was charged back |
| |as fraudulent charges, mostly having to do , interestingly with non-profit registrations, with a smattering of for-profit filings. |
|Mississippi | |
|Missouri | |
|Montana |Luckily we haven’t encountered this issue in Montana. |
|Nebraska | |
|Nevada |When a customer contacts us about a charge on their credit card that they cannot identify, we will research the charge and explain what it is for. |
| |If the customer tells us they did not authorize that charge, or they do not have a business in Nevada, we refer them to their credit card company. Once they dispute the |
| |charge, and we will receive a chargeback. The credit card company will make the determination if it is fraud/stolen. |
|New Hampshire | |
|New Jersey | |
|New Mexico | |
|New York | |
|North Carolina | I checked with our Budget Office and NC hasn't seen anything that is dealing with stolen credit cards yet. |
|North Dakota | |
|Ohio |. |
|Oklahoma | |
|Oregon | |
|Pennsylvania | |
|Rhode Island |Not aware of any activity in Rhode Island, but we will keep Mr. Jordan’s contact information. Have a great week! |
|South Carolina | |
|South Dakota | |
|Tennessee | |
|Texas | |
|Utah |We're not aware of any in Utah, yet! |
