Cross Roads Preschool
Hello, my name is Sarah Hugus. I was born on September 21, 2006. I am the daughter of Bergetta and Gene Hugus, my sister’s name is Ashley,in case you didn’t know we are twins, and my grandparents are Lois Hugus (my dad’s mom) and Dale Kelly (my mom’s dad). I attend Trafford Middle School and am going into eighth grade this upcoming school year. I was baptized on February 25, 2007. I recently joined a youth group called Extreme Teens.? I am very excited to be working on my confirmation this year and love looking into the different things I believe and feel about my faith.I believe that God is the balance of the universe, which means He created everything and is the reason for everything. I also believe that Jesus is the reason our sins are forgiven and am beyond thankful that He died for our sins on the cross. While Jesus is in Heaven, the Holy Spirit is always with us. This makes me feel constantly loved. God has always been a part of my life in many ways.?God has helped me through many hard times. For example, He helped me go through therapy when I was in sixth grade. I had a hard time speaking about what happened when I was younger. I had to have a special kind of therapist for PTSD. But I knew He was there to help me through every session I had. Not only has God been there for me in my hard times, but in my joyful times too. The first thing I thought of that brought joy was when I was told I could go back to in person learning. God saw that I was struggling with online schooling. The next thing that brought me joy was when I started working at a barn. I saw God working because He knew I liked working with horses and kids. The last thing that brought me joy is every time I go up to Pine Springs Camp. The things I enjoy doing at camp are meeting new people, revisiting old places, spending time with old friends, and worshiping in the Refuge. Because God has been with me through the hard times and joyful times I have decided to get confirmed. To me, being confirmed means showing my faith, that God has given me, to the people around me. It also means that I would like to be a member of church and would like to serve alongside God. This to me, shows that I am ready to give myself and my gifts to God. It is a declaration of what I believe and who I believe in. Confirmation means that I am accepting responsibility for my own faith and destiny.? This is important to me because it shows how God is with me for the rest of my life and it is a declaration to myself and everyone around me. Getting confirmed makes me feel happy that I am enhancing my faith with Christ and proud that I have learned so much more about my faith and having the journey through confirmation class to help enhance my faith. There are many ways I would like to serve throughout my life. There are several ways I would like to help others. First, I like to help people in places like homeless shelters and helping little kids. Secondly, I enjoy helping others at school if they need it and I look forward to continuing to do that. Lastly, I see myself becoming a Pine Springs Camp counselor when I am older to be with other people and to share Jesus with younger people and others. In addition to these things, I plan to help with the Kingdom Kids during service and helping out at JAM. In addition to serving, it is also important to grow my faith with Jesus Christ.I plan to continue growing my faith by reading the Bible, attending church services, attending youth groups, and continuing to ask questions that I do not understand or have the answer to.There are several people that have influenced my faith. The first person is my Mom. She has always encouraged me to do more with the church and she has always done so much for all the churches we have been to. The second person that has influenced me is Reverend Dennis Macaleer. He was one of my first pastors. He was and still is always there to answer any questions I have, even the hard ones. The last person is Sarah Carlson. She is a very devoted Christian and she was always encouraging us to enhance our faith when we were younger and during confirmation class. There are also many experiences that have helped me believe and trust in God.The first experience I had that helped me trust in God was the first time I was without my mom at camp and I couldn’t sleep. I ended up staying awake half the night praying for the Lord to let me fall back asleep and eventually I was able to go to bed. The next experience I had was when I started therapy. I was really nervous and was crying on the way to the hospital. When I got there and started talking to my therapist, she was really nice and made me feel more comfortable. The confirmation verse I would like to use as my scripture verse is 1 Timothy 4:12. This says that, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity. To me, this means that just because you are young, does not mean you cannot do big things. It makes me feel encouraged. I selected this passage because it is a reminder that if you are young you can do great things even if others don’t think you can. For example; At the age of 10,? I felt the need to help the homeless.? Because I was young I didn't think anyone would take me seriously.? With the encouragement of my mom and the help of Rev Simpson from Level Green Presbyterian Church, who did not treat me like a child but instead took me seriously, I was able to create and organize a foundation to fulfill my dream of helping the homeless.? Sarah’s Homeless Foundation is very well known, and I am often contacted with many requests from Homeless Shelters even outside of PA.I have felt God’s goodness in many ways in my life. First of all, he gave me a supportive loving family that helps me through everything. He also gave me Pine Springs Camp to have a community of believers that encourage me to be the best version of myself. In conclusion, I am looking forward to being a part of the congregation and continuing to see what the Lord has planned for my life.
