Top 10 Outdoor Patios in Kansas City for your socially-distanced needsWith the threat of Covid still looming, we all know the best we can do is stay home. However, the CDC has stated that outdoor dining is the lowest-risk activity one could engage in and what’s better than enjoying a socially-distanced patio with friends while supporting local? Here are my top 10 favorite patios in Kansas City. And above all else, wear a mask! 1. Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen Their traditionally small patio has extended to the parking lot giving more space and seating for those who wish to dine al fresco. With a delicious happy hour menu, amazing wine selection and the best peanut butter fudge stuffed cookies in the city – this is my choice for a lovely night in the heart of the Crossroads. 2. Antler Room Sidewalk café vibes are abundant at The Antler Room. Nick and Leslie Goellner have done an incredible job at extending their inside space outdoors. Their staff takes cleanliness very seriously and I feel like I’m in good hands. Their new menu is beyond delicious – from Tempura Fried Skate Cheeks to Artichoke Pasta, you can feel good about dining here. 3. Extra Virgin The party starts when you walk in. Extra Virgin is my favorite happy hour spot (3-6pm) and even BC (before Covid) I would frequent their patio often. Shaded by umbrellas with a front row seat to the hustle and bustle of the Crossroads, it’s the perfect spot to sip on Sangria and order up some of their mouth-watering menu options. Unfortunately, you can’t request to reserve a patio seat as it’s first come, first serve, but if you call when you’re a few minutes away, they’ve been known to ‘save’ you a seat. 4. Farina Another restaurant by the famous Michael Smith should be on your list, too. With their expanded sidewalk seating, you can dine under the stars but still experience the white glove service Farina provides. I highly recommend fresh oysters from their Oyster Bar, their Cacio e Pepe pasta (the literal best) and their Watermelon Salad with persian cucumber, arugula, candied pistachio, goat cheese and citrus dressing is the perfect bite on a warm summer day. 5. Brown & Loe I have missed Brunch dearly. Brown & Loe makes it possible to indulge in my breakfast favorites while staying safe on their outdoor patio. With views into the City Market, this small patio is shaded and perfect for an early afternoon happy hour, brunch or dinner anytime you get that craving. Try their new beignets which are so light and airy, you could get away eating all 6 if you don’t feel like sharing. And did I mention they have rosé on tap? 6. Gram & Dunn Everybody knows this Plaza patio but it’s worth adding to the list. Fire pits, umbrellas, hand crafted cocktails and dishes like Shrimp & Grits (the best thing on the menu, in my opinion), what’s not to love about this patio? It’s big enough that you have a good chance of getting a spot while still adhering to the social distancing guidelines. Watch the plaza folk go by as you imbibe on Kansas City’s most famous outdoor dining spot. 7. Percheron at the Crossroads Hotel This patio comes with the best view of Kansas City. Overlooking the KC skyline, Percheron is a gorgeous rooftop deck on the top of the Crossroads Hotel. It’s spacious enough that you feel safe in your 6ft bubble when sitting at one of their many tables. Staff take precautions seriously and currently they are only reserving at half capacity. I’ve visited Percheron quite a few times and have always left feeling well taken care of. Masks on at the table until you receive your drinks and it’s encouraged to put them on when your server approaches. Airy, beautiful and with great views – make Percheron your patio of choice. Reservations mandatory. 8. Teocali Craving chips and guacamole? Enchiladas? Enjoy the Mexican dishes you’ve missed, along with a salty margarita on the 2nd floor patio or rooftop deck of Teocali. With DJ nights during the week, daily specials and an atmosphere that makes you forget about the struggles of life, Teocali is a place you can feel good about visiting. The open-air patio is my recommendation for your next Taco Tuesday. 9. Somerset Ridge Winery While it’s not in Kansas City proper, Somerset Ridge Winery is a gem in Paoloa, Kansas. Just a 45-minute drive from downtown Kansas City, you will fall in love with the atmosphere. On the weekends, enjoy live music in vineyards while sharing a bottle of their refreshingly dry white wine, Traminette (my favorite) and grab a bite from the food trucks on the property. During the week, bring a picnic basket and pack your own lunch to enjoy on one of their many outdoor tables. They aren’t currently doing wine tastings due to the pandemic, but the $10 reservation gets you a glass and a seat – well worth the drive to breathe in the fresh Kansas air and walk among the vines. 10. Char Bar The draw of Char Bar’s patio has always been the games guests can enjoy while waiting on their meal, while those games are now put away, Char Bar is still a popular place due to the expansive patio where it’s easier than most to socially distance. Barbecue, cocktails and beer, it’s a beautiful spot on a sunny afternoon. Reservations encouraged. ................
