Personal Holidays 2017-2018

You asked... we did! During the 2017-18 academic school year, each student will be allowed two personal days to use to celebrate personal holidays. The stipulations remain unchanged. Student Affairs, Clerkship Directors and Coordinators, Docent Council, Curriculum Council, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Administration collaborated to make this change to benefit you. Some tips:

Ask for your day off well in advance. Waiting until the last minute sometimes causes angst. We'll take your requests months in advance.

If you are uncertain of the exact day you need but have an idea that it might be within 2 or 3 days, let us know. We'll work with you to be flexible so that you can have your day when you finally learn of the exact date. (An example is Ed al-Fitr.)

If you have questions, ask! We'll work with you to help you meet your goals without compromising your education.

Any questions regarding Personal Holiday Requests can be sent to Megan Reed at reedme@umck.edu.

the practice or who just want to come in when they can (like busy medical students), this might be the best deal in town.

Here's a link to their class schedule and more information:

Also, even cheaper than $5 classes are YouTube and Facebook, where you can find plenty of free yoga videos including this morning yoga sequence that you can do in bed!

First Fridays at the Crossroads: Friday, June 2nd. On the First Friday of every month, thousands of residents and visitors fill the sidewalks of the Crossroads in Kansas City, enjoying what has become the city's liveliest and most popular event. Arts organizations, galleries, studios, and a wide variety of local businesses feature regional and national artists as well as live entertainment starting at 5 p.m. Best explored on foot, the First Friday tradition continues to grow with up to 10,000 attendees. Most make it an evening, with dinner and drinks from a colorful array of restaurants and entertainment venues. For more info visit:

Festa Italiana: June 2nd-4th. A fundraising event for the Kansas City Chapter of UNICO National. Free Admission all weekend. Non-stop entertainment all 3 days with Italian Food & Drinks, Children's play area, Wine Tasting, 3v3 soccer tournament, Italian motorsports show and much more. Presented by the Kansas City Chapter of UNICO National and hosted by Zona Rosa. Friday 5pm to 11pm. Saturday 11am to 11pm. Sunday outdoor Catholic Mass 10am, Festa 11am to 6pm.

Hospital Hill Run UMKC: Friday, June 2nd. 7PM-9PM. Crown Center. The Hospital Hill Run UMKC School of Medicine 5K will once again be held on Friday evening June 2, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. The event will start and finish on Grand Blvd. in front of Crown Center. All UMKC School of Medicine 5K participants will receive a men's or women's tech shirt, one-of-a-kind finisher's medal, ChronoTrack timing and a great familyfriendly post-race party at Crown Center Square.

We made this change to enhance the 5K experience and to make it more family friendly by adding strollers to the 5K (strollers will not be allowed into the 10K or half marathon). Many families have approached us with children who want to participate in the 5K and parents who want to participate in the half marathon. Now they no longer have to choose! The entire family can participate in the 5K together, and the parents can run in the half or 10K on Saturday.

**The 5K course must be completed within 90 minutes**
