LAKEVIEW COMMUNITY CHURCH
Reformed Church in America
May 2011 Rev. Timothy Bush, Pastor
From the Pastor’s Desk...
Greetings:
Greetings,
April showers, straight line winds, snow, sleet, and marsh fires bring May…. For two months in a row I begin with a less than upbeat introduction. Fortunately, all is not negative and, as a matter of fact, much is very positive! The Consistory has been working overtime to make short and long term plans for Lakeview as my retirement day comes closer. Many opportunities for Lakeview people to get involved in ministry are presenting themselves.
Invitations are out for people to consider possible participation on a Pastoral Search Committee.
Patty Williams, Sandy Rogalski, Debbie Gill, Carol Bremner, and Sally Drenth have risen to the challenge to (wo)man the church office during the month of September while Dotti Fries goes on a well deserved month-long trip.
Kurt Weigand has taken over for Ken Mahon as Scout Master of Lakeview Troop 18.
And changes in other leadership and ministry positions for Outreach, Treasurer, Junior Youth Leaders, Preachers, Visitation, Care Elders, etc., are on the horizon. Exciting times are ahead!
Our God is an awesome God.
Blessings!
Pastor Tim

FROM YOUR CONSISTORY
PASTORAL SEARCH PROCESS UPDATE
Your Consistory is hard at work preparing for the retirement of Pastor Tim and planning for our transition to a new pastor at Lakeview. Here is an update of our activities:
1. Held a meeting with Committee/Group Chairs on April 9. Purpose of the meeting was to get committee leader thoughts on what is good at Lakeview and what can we plan for the future. In addition, they offered suggestions on the personal and professional characteristics of a new pastor.
2. Held annual Spring Care Group meeting. (Blizzard evening, yet 20+ people showed up). Distributed and reviewed in detail a status report on our planning for the retirement of Pastor Tim and the search for a new pastor. Reviewed what other activities have taken place in response to the four October Care Group meetings.
3. Dave Goodrich and Rich Ives have received a list of potential interim candidates from the RCA (Reformed Church in America). The list is severely outdated. We identified nine possible interim candidates who are relatively close to the Rochester area and sent them an
e-mail inquiring about their availability. We asked for
a response by April 30.
4. Dave Goodrich and Rich Ives attended a "Supervising Pastor" Workshop at Trinity Reformed Church on April 16. We are required to have a "Supervising Pastor” assigned by Classis during our pastoral search process. We wanted to find out what the duties of that individual would be.
5. Your Consistory has held two "Special" meetings to discuss and plan for our search process.
6. Rich Ives and Dave Goodrich had the opportunity to speak for about an hour with Lois Fiegl when she filled our pulpit on March 27. Lois is president of Classis and served as worship leader for the Pultneyville Reformed Church as they went through their search process for the past couple of years. Good information.
7. Your Consistory is presently attempting to form the "Pastoral Search Committee." We sent a letter recently to all "active members" to give an opportunity to volunteer to serve on this committee. The Committee will be activated sometime after we have gathered information from our Care Groups.
…continued on next page…
8. We have established four (4) Care Group meetings on May 2, 3, 4, and 5 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall. We are interested in where God is taking us for the future. These meetings will concentrate on gathering information about what is good about Lakeview from the past and in the present, and getting suggestions for what Lakeview should look like for the future. We will also welcome comments on what personal and professional characteristics we should look for in a new pastor. The information we gather will help us to establish a church profile.
9. Your Consistory will be holding another "special" meeting on May 3, after the Care Group meeting, to discuss our interim search process and how we fill our pulpit prior to bringing in an interim pastor.
We pray God's blessings on Lakeview as we go through this search process. We also thank Him for our Lakeview Family as we all work together to determine where God is taking us in the future.
Grace and Peace,
Your Consistory
