My number #1 concern is your success in this class. I am available during our office hours listed above and by appointment to discuss any trouble you are having in class. Please contact me before you drop the course to see if we can do something to ensure your success!The main goal of this course is to empower you to discover the many facets of the business world. The skills you learn here will help you succeed both in and out of class. We will review business concepts that will allow you to understand how the business world works.Required TextThis course uses an Open Educational Resource (OER) book so there is no cost for the book. It is embedded into the Canvas LMS and listed as a pdf in the Student Resources module.If you would like a printed copy of the book, download the pdf version in Canvas and use a website like to print a copy of the book.Required Materials These are the required materials for this class: Computer or tablet to access CanvasOER textbook (free textbook)Course Objectives These are the course objectives we will cover in class:Cite the various ways the U.S. government affects, restricts, and protects pare and contrast the advantages/disadvantages in each form of business ownership.Define business ethics and explain the role of social responsibility in an pare and contrast the primary economic systems.Identify how business operates in an international/global environment including legal, social, cultural, and interdependence and integrated financial markets.Define and describe the key management functions of planning organizing, leading, and controlling.Identify current production & operations processes. Assignments are due by Sunday night at 11:59 pm. There are absolutely no extensions or make-ups of the assignments. All assignments may have the requirements and scoring rubrics of the assignment detailed in Canvas. Please refer to the assignment in Canvas for additional requirements.Discussions: You will be required to post an answer to a discussion for each week. You must make meaningful comments on 2 classmates’ posts for full credit. The weekly discussions are worth 20 points. You must complete your first post by Wednesday for full credit and comment on two of your classmates’ posts by Sunday night at 11:59 pm. There will be no extensions or make-up of the weekly discussions at all.Quizzes:You will be assigned weekly quizzes worth 20 points. Quizzes are to be taken online in Canvas and are due by Sunday night at 11:59 pm. There are no extensions or make-up of the weekly quizzes at all. Exams: You will be required to complete a 100-point final exam. The final exam will be posted in Canvas and there will be absolutely no make-up or extensions accepted. Our office hours are there to support you if you are having a difficult time. Here are some important things to consider:Outside of office hours, please send me a message in Canvas and you should receive a response within 48 hours Monday through Friday. Messages sent Friday, Saturday or Sunday may not receive a response until the following Monday. Please send all messages in Canvas which I check daily. Late Work:Assignments open on Monday at 8:00 am and are due Sunday at 11:59 pm. The first discussion post is due by Wednesday night for full credit. Late work is not accepted so please don’t get behind.Academic Integrity:Students who turn in assignments containing work product not their own without attribution will receive no credit for the assignment and cannot resubmit it.We use may use the Unicheck plagiarism checker for this class.While study groups are encouraged, you may not share exam preparation materials or study guides of any sort with students in your cohort or class.In written work, no material may be copied from another without proper quotation marks, footnotes, or appropriate documentation. Unicheck:Some of your assignments may be submitted through a third-party plagiarism verification program called Unicheck.Please create your assignments in Word and copy and paste them in Unicheck as Unicheck does timeout. (Past students have lost their work when the plagiarism checker times out.)Not all assignments will be subject to Unicheck. Homework will consist of the following:Weekly reading from the textWeekly discussion forumAssignmentsExamsAttendance: Our class is 100% online. This means that you may work on class assignments at any time during the week if your assignments are submitted on Sunday by 11:59 pm. You must submit an assignment and/or discussion to be considered present for that week. Quiz submissions do not count for attendance. If you only complete exams, you will be dropped after two weeks. All the materials for that week will open on Monday at 8:00 am and are due on the following Sunday night at 11:59pm.Class attendance is mandatory and is observed when you submit weekly discussions or assignments.Students are expected to complete every assignment on time. Students may be dropped from class for more than 2 weeks of any missed assignments or for failure to attend the class the first week. (It is your responsibility, however, to drop the course if you do not wish to be enrolled any longer.) Preparedness: You are expected to introduce yourself to the other students in the first week, participate in class discussions, complete the assignments by the deadlines, and be active on all other assignments. Canvas: We will be utilizing Canvas to take our exams and complete other assignments. Please familiarize yourself with Canvas asap. "Netiquette"Personal attacks, profanity, vulgarity, and comments that are not productive to the conversation will not be allowed.Policy on Late Work: Late work will not be accepted for any reason. Drop Policy: You must drop the class if you no longer want to be enrolled. While you may be dropped for non-attendance, it is not guaranteed. If you stop attending class, you may receive an F. If you are sure that you want to drop the course, please drop the course in your Student Portal. The drop dates can be found in your Student Portal. Select Academics Menu then Class Schedule.
