It is designed to prepare students who wish to continue to general Chemistry 101. This course may also be taken to satisfy the Physical Science requirement for General Education. Chemistry 65 at LA Mission College is equivalent to Chemistry 100 and Chemistry 100L at CSUN.Prerequisite A knowledge of Intermediate Algebra (Math 125 or 123C at LAMC) is recommended for success in this course.COURSEINFORMATIONInstrtuction for this course is done synchronously through Zoom at the designated times indicated above. That means you must be present in lecture and lab during designated times listed. The exercises for practice and some of the lab instruction can be done asynchronously through Canvas, Labster, and Beyond Labz platforms.Testing for this course will be done remotely using Proctorio and needs specific technology requirements listed below. You will need a quiet space to take exams without interruption or distraction.Required Materials Textbook: “Introductory Chemistry”, by Nivaldo J. Tro, 6th Edition, ISBN: 9780134557311. See website for detailed information on textbook choices.Lab Manual: There is no lab manual available for this course. The information for each lab experiment is available on the Canvas class pageLab Notebook: A lab notebook is required for recording your laboratory data and claculations. The lab notebook can be used as a resource during lab exams.Periodic Table of Elements: This is available on my website. You must have one Periodic Table with you during all class sessions.Scientific Calculator: Need not to be an expensive type, but it must perform the following operations: Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction, square root, 1/x, and log.You are required to have your calculator with you during all class sessions (both lectures and labs).TECHNOLOGYrequirementsDue to remote instruction in this couse, the following technology related equipment and supplies are required:Labtop or computer with video camera and audio speakers.Zoom app or desktop software to access zoom meetings.Learn Canvas Features – See information in Resources section.Chrome browser with Proctorio extension installed.App or software for scanning and converting images to pdf files (suggestion: CamScanner, Genius Scan, Adobe Scan, Outlook Office Lens).Installation of Beyond Labz software as directed by the instructor.resources:There are several resources available for your use during this course. This course is taught online and has synchronous and asynchronous components. The course participation policy listed below is important to follow in order to successfully complete this course. Please read and be informed of these policies.Instruction for lecture and lab components of this course are done synchronously through Zoom at the designated times scheduled for this course. Attendance at these meetings are highly encouraged in order to receive direct instruction on difficult and challenging topics in the course. Quizzes and Exams for this course are available only during the designated times scheduled for this course. Make ups for Quizzes and Exams are only available for the following scenarios:Instructor is notified prior to the scheduled Quiz or Exam.Medical emergencies (requires a Doctor’s note).Other emergencies (requires some form of documentation and is granted on a case-by-case basis).A maximum of one make up Quiz or Exam is granted per semester.In order to earn full credit for an online discussion assignment, students must make substantive contributions to the online discussion, as determined by the instructor and make a total of two (2) posts per assignment.?There must be one (1) original post and one (1) reply post per discussion. Students are also expected to satisfy the weekly attendance requirements listed below. In order to satisfy weekly attendance requirements, online students must demonstrate active weekly attendance by completing one of the following actions as directed by the instructor.
