Family and Consumer Sciences department scholarships

To be awareded in Spring 2021

THE FCS DEPARTMENT is pleased to award scholarships to our qualified students. Currently, we have several scholarships that are available at the undergraduate and graduate level. Listed below are the seven scholarships available. The eligibility requirements are on page 2.

1. The Nancy J. and Joseph N. Owens Kappa Omicron Nu Scholarship

2. The Tom Chen Scholarship

3. Christine Smith Scholarship

4. The Nancy J. and Joseph N. Owens Scholarship in Apparel Design & Merchandising

5. The Besnilian Leadership Scholarship

6. The Pastor Herrera, Jr. Consumer Affairs Scholarship

7. The Rosalie Hilger Achievement Scholarship – Undergraduate & Graduate

APPLICATION PROCESS

DEADLINE: 5 pm, Monday November 9, 2020. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Items Needed

a) Application form (available on Canvas, online and in FCS office)

b) Typed personal essay indicating why you think you should receive this award (1-page maximum). If applying for any of the scholarships that require participation in MMC, explain the level of involvement at MMC projects.

c) Unofficial transcripts

d) Two recent letters of recommendation (no more than 6 months old)

• Request a Canvas access: Email any the following committee faculty to add you onto the Canvas Application Submission site before 5 pm, Friday November 6, 2020. The committee will not be monitoring their email during the weekend.

• Prepare a single PDF file consisting of item a), b), c) and upload the file on Canvas.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

▪ Scholarship recipients will be contacted by email

▪ The awardees will provide a short bio (about 100 words) and a headshot for the FCS award program/ brochure.

▪ The award will be paid during the following Spring semester, after the awardee submits the following to the Scholarships & Awards Committee:

a) A record showing that the applicant has satisfactorily completed the course work for the fall semester.

b) Verification of registration showing full time-status (12 units for undergraduate and 6 units for graduate students)

Eligibility requirements

For all scholarships, students must be full time in spring 2020 (12 units for undergraduate and 6 units for graduate students)
