Program Announcements

• Stanbridge University: Opened a campus in Alhambra, CA with new PTA Program likely in the next year

• USC: Admitted 2nd cohort for the new Hybrid Program – 48 students; 2 immersions on-campus per semester, weekly on-line meetings, and asynchronous content presentation done individually on-line

• Casa Loma: received approval for a substantive change. Adding a second cohort to start in Fall. Total of 26 per cohort

• APU: Have increased their cohort size to 74 students

Standing Updates/Reports

CEU Update (Christine Balderas, Laurie Boulware, Sundeep Puri, Kelly Prescher)

• No updates at this time

Scholarship (Wendy Chung, Grace Matsuda, Theresa Joseph)

• Applications for 2020 scholarships due at the end of this week (January 31st)

• Please have students create one PDF to submit to the Committee ASAP

• So far… 5 PTA & 7 DPT students have applied

Laws & Policies Committee (Dave Pevsner and Jeremy Hubbard)

• No updates at this time

IACCC/CEF Annual Meeting (Janet Konecne, Corina Aguirre)

• The Fall meeting went well… good feedback and comments; may change to a different vendor for lunch next year

CEF (Clinical Educators Forum) Meetings

• Historically met as SCCEs in the So Cal area

• Patty Nakagawa has changed positons at St. Jude and has stepped away from leadership in CEF

• Debi Craddock from CCS-LA has shown some interest in taking over leadership

• Needs: IACCC Member to act as liaison with Debi to help give feedback and help to re-establish the CEF group meetings. Please let Val Teglia know if you are interested

Credential Clinical Instructor Program (Karen Campos)

• LLU Course in February 2020 (2/9 – 2/10) = 70 participants

• Interested Hosting Sites for Level 1 course

o Cerritos College

o SD Mesa

o Casa Loma

• Level 2 Course: Val Teglia currently the only trainer in California

o To break even for IACCC, need minimum of 12 participants

o Goal is 12-20 participants

o CPTA is offering 1 course in Fresno later this year

• Level 1 Course is being updated

o Changes will be rolled out at CSM 2020

o Materials and Class changes will likely not be fully implemented for 8-12 months

Old Business

• IACCC Slot Database (Exxat) functionality and funding (Michael)

o Presentation of new documents for March 2020 mailing… Need to finalize by

Friday, January 31st at 3 pm

▪ Need to make sure your school starts dates are correct if different than IACCC dates

▪ Michael will share the Excel spreadsheet via Google Docs… please update BE BRIEF

▪ Please send Michael the e-mail which works for Google Drive TODAY (1/24/20)!

o If your school is an Exxat User, please turn OFF the March mailing for those sites that are IACCC

Sites

o Cost for Exxat

▪ Schools will be Invoiced in August 2020 as “IACCC Membership Fee”

➢ May need to change by-laws to reflect that this yearly fee will be a condition of

Inclusion for the IACCC group

➢ Cost will be $750

▪ Due by January 15, 2021

▪ Will cover Calendar Year 2020-2021

➢ Will also help to replenish IACCC funds for last 3 years of usage and future update costs

▪ Value for this Fee

➢ Collaboration among So Cal Schools – Legislation, Accreditation, Trouble-Shooting

➢ Service for Clinical Partners

➢ Time and Resources for March Mailing and coordination of clinical education slots

➢ Continuing Education for Clinical Faculty

❖ IACCC/CEF Annual Meeting for CEUs

❖ 2 free slots per school each year to sponsor CI Credentialing Course for

Clinical faculty

o Upgrade Needs/Wants

▪ The ability to have slots received through IACCC automatically populate to individual

school accounts who use Exxat

• Fundraising options for IACCC to support Exxat and Scholarship

o CI Training Courses (not making as much money as had in previous years)

o Other ideas?

• Non-SARA participating state situation

o SDSU: Kelly Prescher keeps a list of each out of state school and where they stand with SARA

▪ CAPTE found this to be sufficient during October accreditation visit at SDSU

▪ Need to show an attempt to get an exemption or authorization from states outside of

California

o Western U: Janet Konecne reminded group that Medical Schools are exempt; other details

o Paul Smith from No Cal Consortium is pushing this issue with CA legislature

▪ CPTA is looking for broader support for CA participate in SARA

▪ CPTA lobbyist is looking to meet with Higher Education Committee

▪ Recommendation: Write a letter to the CA Legislature Higher Education Committee or

to your personal State Senator to outline how this issue is creating barriers for students to complete their PT education due to administrative burden for schools and increased financial cost to students to go out of state

• IACCC Committees—update and function

o Table until next meeting; current committee members to come up with short description of

what their committee responsibilities are and time frames of work needed to give newer

members an idea and chance to join a committee

New Business

• Skinner Bill—SB 776

o Schools not allowed to conduct a background check or consider the results as part of the admissions process

o Issues:

▪ Requirement for BGC for clinical placements

▪ Ethical issues with accepting students who may not qualify for clinical placement or to sit for the board exam

▪ Safety on campus

▪ Use of paperwork that states that there is not a guarantee that students will be allowed to sit for Board Exam

▪ PT Board of CA: Will not consider individual student background issues until they are eligible to sit for their Board Exam

o Heard in the Education Committee in Sacramento on January 21st & 22nd

o May want to bring up to legal department of Deans at individual schools to make them aware

• March Mailing for 2021: see Exxat Discussion

• House of Delegate Student Participation: low involvement currently, Michael would like IACCC to take a more active role in recruiting for 3rd slot this year and also for 2021.

• Spring Meetings

o Friday, March 27th - CSULB (tentative), 9 am – 12 pm

o Friday, June 19th – USA-San Marcos (tentative), 9 am – 12 pm

• CPTA Annual Meeting – IACCC Table

o October 2-4, 2020 in Anaheim

o Discuss in March… can have a committee and/or have sign-ups for staffing booth for 1-2 hour by DCEs if we are interested

o May help get the word out and recruit other sites to participate as clinical partners

o Cost – will look into it, but reasonable per Val Teglia
